Hi there,

This is the website my hubby is putting together for me for my rescue. About time he put his IT qualification into use lol I need a name for my rescue and I need your opinions on the start of this. Anything you think we should include etc.

There will be a whole section on care of bunnies and piggies and rehoming them. I am going to put links to other rescues too in the useful links sections when I have asked permission from them to do it.

All critisism gratefully appreciated, good and bad but try and make it constructive please lol

Suzanne

I am sure that you have had a good look round as many other rescue sites as possible.

I find that keeping putting up pictures of your rescue guinea pigs and keeping them updated is very important. Many people are looking to replace a lost companion quickly, for instance. If we get fairly specific requests on here, it is easier to point them to a certain rescue when you can make a quick check to see whether that rescue really has what people are asking for.

Put your address out and register on as many guinea pig forums and sites like the guineapigrehome.org.uk, so you can access as big a potential customer base as possible, considering that not all people will pass your home check.

Think about a donation scheme that makes/keeps people interested in your guinea pigs. If they can put a pretty face to a story, they will part with their money a lot easier (sorry, if I sound cynical - but it is true). Medical cost are only going to go up.
For instance, you could run an auction on your website for naming/godparenting new guinea pigs that haven't got a name (especially any pups born at the rescue!) etc. and set up a sponsoring scheme for old age pensioners or piggies needing permanent/longterm medical support, like some rescues on here do.

For a name: Wee Wheekers or Weeny Wheekers Guinea Pig Rescue?

Sorry can't really give any advice than what has already been given, but I do think the point about making sure updates are done often with regards to the piggies looking for adoption is vital.

I also love Wiebke's suggestion for a title 'Wee Wheekers Guinea pig Rescue'

I like a combination of Hoggle's and Bonnie's idea... Small paws rescue centre. A sanctuary makes me think of a place where maybe older or ill pets are kept a bit like a nursing home, it doesn't make me think rehoming. Logie Bear doesn't say what you are. (sorry).
Definitely as Wiebke says, photos on website with ages, maybe some history, and must be kept up to date. Phone numbers/e mail numbers that are always answered quickly. Have a page for your adoption policy/procedure.
Good luck.
xx

i hope you dont mind (an if logie wants the name she can have it i'll find another...) but i would really really like to use the name Small Paws rescue for our little rescue here in belgium...unless anyone has any objections? been looking for a name for a while and that sounds perfect for our little rescue as it is not just gp orientated, but chinchillas, rats, mice too.... is it ok for me to nab it?

Should there be a link or are you just looking for ideas?

Sorry :{

I loved the name Little Paws Rescue very much as well, but it sounded too unspecific to me if it is just for guinea pigs. The more you specify in your name what your rescue is for, the less you will be bombarded with animals and requests of any kind.

Fair point, How about Little Paws Guinea Pig Rescue, although I think Suzanne may have rabbits too ?/ xx

Back to the drawing board! :))

i love the 'critters' movies, used to be petrified as a kid but find them so cheesy and funny now!

hehe thats funny our rescue here is called australian cavy sanctuary so it didnt seem odd to me lol.

Small paws rescue centre does sound better and small usually means species other than dogs or cats so it does cover it xx

Angora Rabbit, I wouldn't fancy grooming him! :(|)

Small paws rescue is cute yes, you should go with that! :)

Use that rabbit as your logo! :(|) (I just laughed out loud at it at my desk and had to pretend I was coughing!)

We currently have an angora rabbit in who isn't far from that pic. He is a nightmare to groom, has to be done every day. Poor thing hates it too.

I do like Small Paws Rescue.

What do you think of the site then people? Less about the angora and more about my site pretty please x
