I have compiled a new guide on Weight Loss and how to interpret it correctly. Here is the link; you can find the guide at the top of our Health/Illness section.
Weight Loss Explained: BMI, Weighing, Poos and Feeding Support
The new guide addresses:
- Understanding your own piggies' individual weights (how to feel and look for their BMI - it's dead easy!) vs. 'average' weight
- Being able to put the weight loss into the right perspective because you will now have the tools to interpret it properly
- A check list for possible causes for weight loss and loss of appetite
- The different complementary roles that a daily weigh-in and poo monitoring have in terms of weight loss/illness monitoring
- How to work out the correct feeding support level for your piggy with further links to practical how-to guides on various aspects
- Spotting further signs of illness and how urgently they need to be seen by a vet
- Finding more practical advice on emergency and crisis care
Plus clearing up some common misconceptions that can confuse you badly or send you easily down a rabbit hole and make your anxiety worse rather than better - which won't help your ill piggy.
PS: I would also like to remind our existing members that we have a sub-section off our Health/Illness section for our Emergency Care guides to enable access to the necessary information at all times and from all time zones. You cannot post in that section and will need to use the normal monitored Health and Illness section for support. It makes it much easier for us to monitor. Less posts are getting lost in the system if we get all health enquiries in one place.
It may also be useful to bookmark the link to our one-stop Emergency Care and Resources guide in case something happens during our forum down time. All the necessary information, practical how-to advice (including how to improvise) and links are in here: Emergency and Crisis Care as well as Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment
