One of my new young US teddy guinea pigs started to scratch herself (mostly ear). She doesn't do it when she's resting. Rather when she is active. I took my pigs from certified breeder and they both have pedigrees so it is rather trusted place. She is very scaried and I can't look at her in detail, but when they came they skin, ears etc. looked normal. I talked to the breeder and she told me not to worry - guinena pigs were perfectly healthy when I took them. She told me that this can be caused by stress. Is it possible? I have them only for 2 days and that "scratching pig" is more scarried and nervous. She squeeks in panic when I try to grab her. The other one is calmer, takes food from my hand and doesn't run away. Maybe it is allergy? But I use wooden pellet and vetbed. At breeder's place they were on sawdust. I give them the same food, only hay is different

Hi and welcome

The stress of being separated from their mothers and group will indeed lower an still developing immune system and bring up skin parasites or a fungal infection if exposure has happened at the shop/breeder.

Please take the time to read the information in these guides here; you should find it very helpful:

Arrival in a home from the perspective of pet shop guinea pigs (the same goes for for sale breeder piggies)

So can she be ill and I should go to vet asap or let her settle and observe? I looked at her ears and behind them and skin looked normal, but it is impossible now to check her fur. Other pigs at breeder's place were rather healthy (vet checks them regularly at breeder's place). I think (hope) that the lady would inform me if there were any problems. Is it possible that infection developed within 24 hours to the "scratching stage"? She doesn't do it when she's resting/sleeping, mostly when eating hay.

If you’re worried I would take them to your own vet for a health check. But if it’s not constant and you don’t notice anything then hopefully it’s ok. Have a read through those threads Wiebke has linked above.
