Not sure if I am posting in the right place or not so feel free to move me.

We got our 2 female cavies a week ago, they are about 7-8 weeks old.

I've noticed that sometimes one chases the other out of their little house, but I assumed that they were just sorting out the pecking order. They have just had a fight though, Molly was chasing Blossom round the cage & looked like she was hanging onto her back with her mouth - the squeaking was horrible :( Does this mean they are not getting on & likely to fight or is it normal?

Thanks for any advice!

I've had a look & they do both look the same bottom wise, it was one of the first things I did when we got them.

Sometimes when there 7-8 weeks they look female but are sometimes males. I got one of mine at 8 months and he looked female for a few days.

I think you need to keep a very close eye on them as their bites/teeth can do a lot of damage. Where did you get them from?

I would be inclined to say to say check again and again just to see if they are both female or you could end up with more problems we still get caught out and some of us have had pigs for years, it happens some times the boys pom poms dont appear for a while, if they are definatly both girls i would say one is the more dominant and is showing her nasty side , thing is i keep all my girls in one hugh herd in a big run and never have any problems with girls fighting, I can introduce a new girl young or old and she is sniffed for a while but never bitten or harrased in fact she is shown off to if you know what I mean, so when I hear of your girls fighting its so wierd, the worst ever was a barbering pig which has solved itself now shes found veggies taste better lol
but you really need to watch these two and make sure the harrased one is not being bullied as it will cause her depression good luck

They seem to now keep having a bit of a scrap every now & then. They will snuggle up in their house together but then if one goes out & then tries to go back in they will get chased out & vice versa. It's not all the time though. Then they will run round squeaking at one another and kind of headbutt but not harshly & then go back to being chilled out.

I shall have another good look at their bits & see if DH can hold one while I hold the other so we can compare. Trouble is one of them is having none of it with regard to being handled ?

Trying wrapping the one who doesn't like being handled yet in a blanket exposing the required bits!

When I got Lottie and Grace, Lottie kept chasing Grace and not letting her in the pigloo, blocking her way, getting the food etc. They were just sorting out who's 'boss' and now they live amicably together, I wouldn't say they're close in the way my rabbits are, but they're fine together.

Hopefully yours are just sorting out the hierarchy too :)

Ok, wrapped them in a towel & they still looked pretty much the same to me, so am praying they are!

We're in the process of building them an extension (upper floor) do they nead a certain height or does it not matter that the lower level is made a bit dark by the upper level? They certainly don't seem to mind.

We've also bought them a few new toys & we're going to pop all their new bits in when the extension is finished.

Already today though when I got up they seem a bit happier with one another - phew! One has been running about in & out of her chube too, looks like she could be playing?

Thanks for all the advice!

Aww yes it sounds like she's playing! they love running through tubes :) Cant wait for pics of the new upper level, i'm thinking of doing that to mine too :)

Thanks, it's not that pretty, but if it's better for them that's all that matters :)

you can also extend the cage outwards using grids to make more room either permanently or temporarily as floor time. I did this with an indoor cage and it worked well.
