Hi, I’m setting up a home for some guinea piggies :luv:(we haven’t any yet) and I’ve ordered vetbed non slip for the bottom of the cage which I’ve been advised is the wrong one to use :(. Please is there anything else I could use this for for the piggies?

What were you told as to why it is the wrong one?
There are many of us who use vetbed on here.

Oh, I’ve just re-read was it because it is the non slip version, not the green backed original version?
To my understanding the non slip is rubber backed so it won’t wick urine down to the absorbent underlayer that you have to put down (for example puppy pads).

You could still use it but it would probably just need to be changed out quicker than the other version. I wouldn’t put it, for example, in a kitchen area as piggies tend to wee and poop where they eat so it would probably get wet quite quickly, or not within a bed area. Perhaps just use it in the middle of a cage where they are more likely to run and play?

Ok, thanks, it’s good to hear it’s still useful. I will get some of the original green back vetbed for the wetter areas. I was thinking of having a go at making my own fleece liners also.

I used the rubber backed one for years, it wicks through the tracks in the rubber and is absolutely fine. There is no difference i n the wicking between the two. I prefered it to the green back although I have gone over to green back now for the following reasons -
The rubber back is not so pliable and is not so easy to get large pieces into the washing machine.
After 4 years the rubber started to perish and left little powdery bits everywhere, not good for piggies respitory tracts.

I don't have any problems with it wicking either. My only consideration is that I don't use it for fosters as it can't be washed at as high a temp as the green backed on.
