Hi guys, i wanted to introduce myself and my piggies. My name is Ruth and I recently acquired 2 male piggies through a friend of mine. The boys are a year old, (came from pets@home :() my friend had no idea how to look after them, she bought them a nero 4 cage to go indoors, but soon got fed up of them smelling. I told her they just needed cleaning out more often! They went outside in the garden in a 5ft double hutch, never to come out again unless I went round.
The boys are both long haired and were always in a terrible state when I visited, I always spent half an hour trying to cut the cots and knots out of their hair :( my friend had no confidence in catching and holding them, they didn't have access to a run and I was finally fed up of her moaning about feeding them (yes just feeding them was annoying to her) and cleaning them out that I said I would take them home with me.
Luckily my mum agreed to me having them and they have been here about a month, looking much better after regular grooming/haircut and cleaning out and they love going in their run!

and both enjoying their first time in the run

I have not had guinea pigs since I was little so any general advice would be greatly received!
also if anyone knows what breed/type my gorgeous boys are, I would like to know!

Thanks for reading

Hi Ruth,

Welcome to the forum, I'm Louise I have 10 pigs and 1 rabbit. Well done on rescuing the little guys they are gorgeous.

Do both boys have like a round circle, like a crown on the top of their heads? That would mean they are coronets I will show you a pic of my little guy Milo who is arriving here tomorrow to show you what I mean...

If they don't have the crown then they are Shelties. I had one from Pets at Home called Cuzzy he passed away in October (he was a runt and very small)

But to me they do look like coronets but could be camera angle.

welcome Ruthie well done on being such a sweetheart, must have taken courage to tell your friend she was not looking after them properly, and well done to your Mum for supporting you adopting them.

Well done you for getting them away from your friend, they look like lovely boys and I agree with Louise, Sheltie-type pigs probably! Gorgeous.

Louise - I wasn't on here when you had Cuzzy but he really reminds me of my baby Wooster - will take some pics today and see if you agree!

Welcome to the forum

Hello Ruth, welcome to the forum. Your piggies are gorgeous...well done for rescuing them and giving them a lovely new life.

Hi guys thanks so much for the welcome :) I think the boys must be shelties as neither of them has a crown at the top of their heads, Elvis' hair, on his head, usually sticks straight up like a mohican, but it got that long he could hardly see, so I keep it short now!

thanks again for the welcome, i look forward to posting on here ;D

i think the first piggy could be peruvian and the second a sheltie. the 1st looks so similar to my merlin before i chopped all his hair off for the summer :smitten:

lovely piggies :smitten: :smitten:
