Hi all,

We are going to buy our daughter 2 Guinea pigs and have purchased a 3ft, 2 floor hutch. Stage hutch we have bought has no bottom and would therefore be on the grass the majority of the time. Would it be worth me making a floor for the bottom before getting the guinea pigs or will they be ok?

You need to put a false floor on the hutch. My old hutch went straight onto the ground and in no time the grass underneath went yukky. If you put the hutch on the patio the ground will be too cold for piggie feet. My false floor was a sandwich of weather proof ply and floor insulation wrapped in weatherproof membrane and another layer of weatherproof ply it worked well. Hope this helps.

Please also be aware that a 3 foot hutch is really too small for 2 guinea pigs.
The internal dimensions of each floor will be under 90cms, and by the time you take out the space lost for the ramp, they will have very little unbroken floor spaces.
Guinea pigs really appreciate having a reasonable amount of unbroken floor space on 1 level to run around.
Would it be possible to exchange the hutch for a large size before you alter it?
