Hi I am new to this site but not to guinea pigs,I have had them all my life. This is long so sorry but really hoping someone can give help and advice. I had two little girl pigs already and then rescued 3 pregnant ones all from the same place,( there was about 20 pigs at this place and at least 15 of them were pregnant) the first gave birth to 8 stillborn babies :( about 3 days after rescuing her.
Then a week later the second gave birth to six healthy babies 4 boys and 2 girls. Then 3 days later the last one had her 3 babies 2 girls and 1 boy. All healthy and doing good. Then on Wednesday when the second litter were a week old I noticed one of the little girls wasn't well it was so sudden like she was fine one minute the next she was weak and dragging her back legs and she passed away that night, and then today one of the little girls from the third litter (who are a week old today) did exactly the same, one minute she was fine running around and the next she was just weak and floppy not moving her legs and has just passed away. Why is this happening? They seemed so healthy and weren't the runts or anything. Could it be from how they were kept befor I rescued them,or inbreeding or something,it's so sad that now 10 little piggies have gone.
Does anyone have any idea why this happening.
Oh yeah they are all kept inside in a large c&c cage.
Thank you for any responses

How tragic to hear this. Maybe it was a case of Inbreeding. Do you know you have to remove any boars at three weeks as they can get their mother and sisters pregnant? I am sorry I do not have any other advice for you.

Thank you for replying, yes I am aware that they need separating and have cages prepared for this.

Gosh how awful for you! Maybe it is inbreeding, or maybe the mummy pigs didnt have the proper care & nutrition they needed? It's very sad but all you can do is stay positive & try your best for the pigs you have left. Good luck to you & all your piggies

Have you had the babies seen by a vet and a post mortem done in case it is something infectious? Babies can go downhill awfully quickly.
