Hi all,

Hope I'm not repeating previously asked questions. I have been looking into getting some guinea pigs for a while now, and had always thought I would get them in the spring.

My first question is about what the advantages/disadvantages are over getting two females or two males. I have read various advice saying various things - girls are moodier, and can fight. Boys sometimes fight. Boys smell more. Boys are friendlier. Girls are calmer etc etc......

I'm guessing that either make great pets, and most of the time will get on together (as long as brothers or sisters) but would be good to hear from those who already keep guineas.

My second question is about putting them out for a run. I've read that you can only put them out in the garden in a run from May to September. Is this the case? I guess I'd thought that if they had some shelter and bedding in the run then they would be ok out as long as it wasn't tipping it down with rain or snowing. I'm not sure how I'd feel about having a couple of guineas whose majority of their time was spent in their hutch for 8 months of the year.

(I'm considering a hutch with attached run, so they can come and go as they please)

Grateful for any words of wisdom!

Thank you! That's helpful. We're thinking of girls (so happy advice doesn't conflict as already picked names! ;))

Anyone got any advice re. the run question?
