Hi, Recently my two guinea pigs have decided to start eating the newspaper. Is this harmful and if so should I just take it out?

Guinea's love anything papery! I wouldnt worry too much, our lot have been munching any they can get their paws on and have no problems. :)).
I'm pretty sure the Peter Gurney site says its safe too.

Newspaper is perfectly safe because the printers ink no longer contains lead.It was replaced a few years ago with soya based ink.
My piggies love to tear the paper into shreds then scatter it all over the floor.

Mine do it all the time. There is always a background noise of "rip rip rip"

I've been shredding the newspapers for ours and putting them in their bedding area every day and it either gets trodden down, or eaten! Do you think that it's a good thing to use for warmth?

Yeah! I think it's great as a source of warmth and I always feel I'm helping the environment by re-using it!

is it ok to use the paper out of my shredder or is it too sharp for their tootsies.Mine are on a thick layer of newspaper covered by fleeces at the moment.

We have a soft shredder and it makes all the edges soft not sharp. I use shredded paper for my rats and on occasion for the piggies too. I **** all my newspapers through it. You do have to make sure none of the paper has toxic things in or on it Eg inks or died or even some white normal paper concerns me because of the bleach used.

where do you get a soft shredders from?

Sometimes mine tear at the newspaper ... not sure which they prefer to tear up - is it the News of the World, Sun or the Telegraph, or perhaps the Financial Times :)).

They rip it up, I take it out to tidy them again and then it starts again.
Naughty little things xx

My pig loves anything paper! lol i give her some paper sometimes for her to play with and she loves to rip it up!

If I'm reading a book and have Toby on my lap he actually attacks it trying to eat it lol inbreeding I think the Ink could be harmful though on newspaper?

My friends at work save me their newspapers, but when I am putting it in the hutch I always make sure that there is a nice story facing upwards. Nothing inappropriate like page 3 for the boys, or boring football for the girls. I really do this! Geek! xx

haha! that is so funny! but i have to say thinking about it, i did that last night too! hehe!

I've got a couple of books that have half their cover missing as I left them on the floor and my girls discovered them on their walks through the house :p

same as my piggies, they love books, chewed a cover off an old one once! lol!

They also like it when I'm readnig the newspaper as they chew that too!

Newspaper ink isnt bad for them, its made frmo natural substances.
