I want to use newspaper in my guineas hutch but I'm confused. Do I put some shredded newspaper over a layer of normal? And if so, how do I shred it?
 
you can i just lay newspaper on the bottom of the hutch and then add hay on the top.
 
Yup just lay some Newspaper (about two layers) and dont worry if your piggies chew it it can't harm them

yeah, i just put a fairly thick layer of newspaper then lovely long hay for their bed, and then megazorb for the rest. it works really well, they're all clean dry and happy! O0 :) and it's also recycling, my family give me their old newspaper to use :)
 
I use a few layers of newspaper then cover with short chopped newspaper, then russel rabbit straw and a few piles of wilko's hay in the corners for snugling into :)
 
I use a shredder, parents got me one for 10pounds in Asda, you can get cheap ones usually. I use it to cover the whole floor on normal paper :)
 
Thats great I've already got a shredder! :) But wouldnt using plain paper be really exspensive?! Could I use a mix of normal paper and newspaper? Would that work?
 
When i shred normal paper t feels abit harder than softer newspaper. My aunty and sister keep all there newspaper for me, i get loads. Maybe you can ask people to keep theres for you, will be loads cheaper O0
 
I'm gonna need to cause we already use paper for the guineas and the rabbit, and we already have to buy extra just for that >:(
 
I use a lot of newspaper and I ask my family and workmates at the office to give me their weekly supplies. The hairdresser salon next to the office also gives me their bundle once a week.

Most people are now accustomed to keeping their papers for their recycling and most are usually glad to get rid of their bundle.

Try a neighbour too.
