Does anyone know where i could go and get old newspapers from? We rarely buy papers nower days and have run out, (we use them to line the cage beofre putting our bedding in) Mother in law used to be our reliable supplier but she doesn't buy them anymore either!

What do shops do with the ones they dont sell?

i think they send them back to the people they come from.

i get mine from work, (nursing home) the residents have lots of papers and the weekend ones are great, dead thick.

You could go to residential homes or nursing homes and ask what they do with them, i bet they just bin them

failing that, go and loot some recycling bins on bin day!

Sometimes I pretend to be house hunting and pick up a few free property papers. Also we get free local papers so if I'm in a shop with a pile of them I take a few.

If you're near a train station and if they give away 'Metros' you could nab some of them too?

x

I'm lucky as my dad has a paper everyday so saves them for me. He also has about 5 people at work who save them for him and their neighbour saves them also.

Ask friends and family to save their papers and you will soon have a huge pile :)

The property hunting sounds like a good idea, plus we actually are property hunting so even better. Thanks I dont live near a train station unfortunately.

My mother in law used to save them but she doesn't by them anymore and father in law uses theirs for their pigs! I wont get into my side of the family ha!

you could put an ask on your local freecycle i did when i ran short and a few even offered a regular supply. just be sure to ask before recycling day.

Supermarkets? Our supermarkets in Norwich have the free jobs paper and we take a handful! I have a funny feeling you are in Norfolk too!

What is free cycle? is it an online thing? Do you collect them from people's houses?

As I work at a newspaper... I have a steady easy supply :)

freecycle is were people ask and offer things for free.

should help to find your local one
http://www.freecycle.org/group/UK/East

you have to register first and usually you collect from their houses.

i once got a really good carpet from asking on freecycle:)

i work in a bookies and once a fortnight i bring home all the old racing post's, they are quite thick papers, its worth asking as they only get chucked in the bin! they may think your a bit loony though, my manager thinks i am :)):)):))

My hubby brings home the newspapers that are in the reception at his work. Usually they've not even been opened. So my piggies have The Financial Times to line their hutches!

Shame I'm not near you - I saved mine for the vet always, but they have enough, and I would have happily saved them for you instead.

Newsagents and the like get them on sale or return, so anything they don't sell, they return for credit.

Do you have any ahem... older... people in your neighbourhood? Working in a newsagents, it's generally the older generation I see that read newspapers, maybe you could have a nosey around on recycle day, see who has newspapers in their green box and ask them nicely - show them a photo of your needy piggies :))

My grandad saves me his papers :)

Where abouts are you?

If I get low I ask at work - trouble is I then get too many!

Free papers are good - don't know if libraries ever turf any out? If you have a local paper office nearby could ask them as they often have spares.

I need to get a few more soon as my supplies low - we have the local free papers x 2 and get the local paper daily.

I usually hijack several metros if I get the train to work - have even been and collected a pile a few times off the train and got several funny looks:))

Luckily i get a big pile on my doorstep from the local free paper delivery lady! :D
