This is our pig with post castration abcesses.

His weight is down a little bit today and I haven't seen him eat so I am carrying on syringe feeding.

Problem is that he is being really picky - probably because he is feeling rough - but feeding times are becoming a bit of a battle. He doesn't seem to like Critical Care so I have just ordered some Supreme Science recovery food. We will carry on with the Critical Care and maybe mush up some pellets, but could I give him small amounts of pureed baby food in between to try and get him interested in food again? If I got a fruit variety, it would have roughage some calories and some vitamin C.

You can mix and match with flavoured additives like mushed pellets or or pureed veg as long as you make sure that the overall hay based content is around 80% of the daily intake for the longer term.
Have you been given metacam and can you ask your vet for a gut stimulant like emeprid to help your boy while he is feeling rough? If the weight is only going down a little, you are still doing OK considering that a high dose of baytril is a real appetite killer.
For that reason I would also recommended fibreplex and fresh poo soup; information on them can be found in our syringe feeding guide.

Thank you - he has just had some Metacam and has perked up a bit. I will ask the vet for a gut stimulant and look up the guide.

@katew I know the TEAS pigs like the Apple, carrot and parsnip pouches from Aldi. And the purple pouch which I think has blueberries in it.

If you give them a syringe full of it every now and then whilst feeding the pellets and/or recovery food it might get them more interested.

I think TEAS uses wheatgrass powder too, mixed in with the food. Is that right @furryfriends (TEAS) ? My brain is rubbish at remembering!

Thank you - I will explore Aldi.
