After her bout of coccidiosis the other week, she seemed to getting on really well and we were preparing to get her back in with her friends this weekend. The past couple of days though she has barely been eating; her hay and veg are practically untouched, and she picks at her pellets every now and then. Then last night we noticed more mushy poo, so thinking the coccidiosis is back with vengance, except this time i fear there may be other resulting problems from her not eating hay, so have a feeling her teeth will need filing too.

She's booked in to see the vet at 8:40 this morning because thereceptionist said they won't give me anymore septrin or even any recovery till they've sen her. Please send her some healing vibes, it's horrible seeing her in such a state, she's almost completely unresponsive.

Back from the vets, she's being kept in. When we took her out of the carrier there was some bloody mucus in there, and when I looked at her bum it looked like there was a bubble of the same stuff coming out. When I put her on the table some more came out that looked the same but was more watery. They're going to treat her with something to kick start her appetite, something to protect her gut, and of course get her back on the septrin.

Ohh poor baby :(

I'm sorry to hear Nibbler is under the weather, it's horrid when your piggy is unwell :(

Sending lots of love and thoughts, hope she is feeling brighter soon and the vets can do something positive quickly for her. x>>

She was rushed to the vets again this morning because she's barely eating and has lost another 20g (130g total this time around). She's been pumped with fluids, metoclopramide and metacam to try and make eating easier and more appealing to her, poor thing probably feels like a pin cushion.

I'm also trying to get some recovery into her today, but having problems getting it into the syringe. Would I be better spooning it in maybe or would the air above it just push it back out when the plunger is replaced? Seems I can only get the watery part of the mixture to suck up, the thicker stuff just sits in the bowl even after a lot of mixing. Any suggestions? Putting it on food is out of the question because she isn't eating.

I am sorry about Nibbler :( I don't have enough experience to give any helpfull advice, but I do hope Nibbler makes a speedy recovery and I am sending much her love way xxxxxxxxxx

I found cutting the majority of the spout off the syringe so that only a tiny bit is left (to stop the plunger coming out) helped enormously with sucking up the food.

I used a pair of pliers to snip it off and then widened the hole as much as I could (I used a nail file to smooth any sharp edges).

I'll see if I can find a pic for you.

Suzy x

Showing tip of the syringe cut off but leaving the 'shoulders' of the spout to prevent the plunger coming out.

Sorry to hear this and hope Nibbler gets better soon x

Me, the Pigs and the Rabbit are sending lots of healing Wheeks to Nibbler! We all hope she gets better soon!

Nibbler is starting to perk up a bit now. We've been giving her the recovery and antibiotics, and hand feeding her some veg. She seems to be taking more of an interest in food, though still not as much as she should, but my other half found her standing on top of her hidey last night when he brought the veg through, something she always used to do, so there's at least a hint of her old self there, such a relief!
