How long should you handle a 7 week guinea pig for at a time? my two have got completely different tempermants..cookie is laid back and will sit for ages on your lap being stroked..but cotton ball.. after a few minutes will start to get very restless and try to nibble anything she can get her hands on including trying to get my finger sometimes...Why does she do this? Does she just want to go back into her cage do you think?...is it normal for babys to nibble I did read somewhere that it was..

Hi
Guinea pigs all have their own personality and in all pairs you find dominant piggies who can tend to be the one who feels more secure and rests easier.
Your piggies are only young so think of them as children who can get bored easy or just want their space.Treat your piggies as individuals and dont worry about it just give your piggie time to settle everyone likes attention in different ways.
My peaches is a fidgeter and nibbler and Daisy just sits and you know she is thinking for goodness sake keep still !
Try putting some toys out for cotton ball to nibble whilst you have cuddle time.

i read somewhere that guineas nibble or lick you because they like the salty taste of your skin!

babies tend to nibble to see what they can get away with. Dont shout at them because that doesnt work just move your hand away and they will get the idea.

Nibbling in young guinea pigs is a way of exploring the world - guinea pigs haven't got a puke reflex, so they have to be careful what they eat. They will learn quickly if you do not like being nibbled at!

Some piggies use nibbling to get their way, and some will lick you either for salt or for affection - there are both reasons. A piggy nibbling at your hair is also a sign of affection; it's called barbering and some piggies do it to each other. Not always a joy if your longhaired guinea pig has got a short haircut overnight!

That has happened to two of my long haired lovelies and I really want to know who the culprit is!

That happened to me! Pippa decided I needed a haircut and promptly nibbled the very front of my hair as I was leaning into their cage... I had to disguise it with hairspray and hair grips for weeks! :red :))

On nibbly piggies, our Pixel is still a bit of a nibbler at 7 months 9or so) when you hold her. She's not too bad when she's on your lap, but does seem to get bored very easily

One of mine used to do that when he was a baby i think its because he got excited, he is 2 and half now and he is perfectly fine sitting with me but he does do it a little bit when he wants to go home or get down and explore ..

I think they just do it when they are excited or want to do something else.

Hope it improves for you! x :)
