my pigs have started occasionally nipping me now for no apparent reason they are fine for ages no noise no squirming then they just turn and nip me during lap time, it obviously makes me jump as it catches me off guard and i dont wanna start getting jumpy when holding them as i dont want to weaken the bond anyone got any advice?

Has this happen before or just started? Are they needing the toilet. Our Vimto is a nipper, actually no she bites :)) She will turn round and snap on my lap but has always done this. Cookie will give me a little nip if she needs the toilet but is gentle about it.

i dont think its the toilet, yeah they have only just started doing this, one of them tends to just wee on me anyway so no idea what the signal is that he needs to go lol the others have never weed on me

With what you say in your other thread it makes me wonder if there may be a bit of a skin condition. Do you find it is more when you are stroking them that they are nipping?

no necessarily stroking them just if they are on my lap they will nip i may take them all to the vet over the next week or so and get them all checked for skin probs etc

All of my girls will nip from time to time, mainly (ginger girls) it is letting me know they want the toilet, or in Tia's case she just likes to let me know she is still there or she is fed up and wants to go back home. Rosie is the exception in that she generally doesn't nip except when you hand feed her and in that case it is a accidental bite.

Are you using any lotion on your hands or a different soap, or have you handled food at all before holding them? One of my pigs will try to lick me if I've used lotion or a scented soap before picking her up, and if I let her continue she will progress to nibbling/nipping. And I have been nipped when I had just been handling food, as I think she was hoping that I might be a snack.
