Over the last couple of days both of my guineas have started to nip, they tend to lick then nip and do it a few times whilst I'm giving them cuddles. Just had one of my boys out now and he did then then bit a bit hard on my wrist :( why is he doing this? does anyone elses guineas do this?!

My little boar Oscar licks then nips, he's 14wks old, but it doesn't hurt.

I put it down to his age. How old are your's and have you had them long?

They are only 8 weeks and had them for 3. Thats quite reassuring then. Its not like they are doing it viciously and i find it funny how they have both started to do it at the same time. Was just hoping it wasnt down to me and they dont like me or something lol

Young Guinea Pigs do bite as a way to communicate, they soon grow out of it though. Pigglet is 13 weeks now and is just about out of the whole nipping thing, Logan is 8 weeks and still nippy. Funnily enough none of my girls nipped! :)

That's men for you! :))

Thats reassuring then, fingers crossed it's a phase!

It's so funny seeing the difference between Alan (2ish) and Oscar. Oscar is MENTAL!

aw bless its juts their way of communicating and exploring and yes they should grow out of it. You may also smell of something they think they can eat lol. My boy still does it sometimes and he's nearly two, if thinks it might be slightly edible he'll have a lick and a little nibble, just incase lol.

It is normal behaviour for babies who are discovering the world and have yet to learn what they can and can't do. Just let them gently know that nipping you is not a great idea.
