Has anyone done any research as to why there is no fur behind a piggys ears?

Anders :)

It's a genetic trait so you can stroke them behind the ears. :smitten:

lol I thought it was to aid their hearing?

Could be...lol I read on guinea lynx that it was just so they could be kissed there. :)

Starla is right. It is to do with the hearing.Hair would block the sound and piggies rely on the sense of hearing and smell to safeguard themselves against predators.Their sight is very weak but the hearing is extremely acute.

Ah a logically explanation, thanks Mary! My Dad has just bought a cat sensor thing to scare away cats, we can't hear the sound but cats can. Dad said to get one but I think it would upset the pigs too much! I'm happy to trelise my garden. :)

Spray lemon and pepper around the garden where you don't want the cats. It works for me - I've got five kitties next door and none of them comes over anymore since I've sprayed the fence and garden edge. They lick it and hate the taste.
It's safe for animals too.

Oh thanks for that! I have a rabbit who free ranges too and my garden is cat proof but you never know do you! may get a Spider cat in! :D

Thanx Mackpossum. I`ll do this in my garden cos my piggys are outside (but well protectected from cats).

Anders :)
