I’ve now been offered twice some old bread to feed to my guinea pigs!.. today ‘take that sandwich home for your guinea pigs’

:))

I don’t think the General people in Australia know what Guinea pigs are.. and that they are not in fact not PIGS.
The lady from work today who told me to take the sandwich home for my guinea pigs thought guineas and hamsters were the same thing :))

Just got to laugh and kindly tell them the right facts. Oh dear.

And don’t worry I know not to feed the piggies bread! Haha

I don't even know how people would get the idea to think bread is ok with guinea pigs!

People are strange :)) I have heard people say that in the U.K. too, it’s so hard to stop the ol’ eyes rolling XD

I lived in a shared house a few years ago. I went to feed my pigs one morning and my housemate (from New Zealand) had given them a piece of marmite on toast! We had to have a little chat

Bread. :hb:
My mates often say they like to put one of my piggies in a sandwich . . and other comments . . but it's only because I put them before most things now.

It might help if piggies didnt wheek at every plastic bag or paper rustle... I keep telling them they can't eat crisps, or biscuits, or crumpets, or curry, or garlic bread, or new clothes that are delivered in a rustly bag... or my students' coursework papers... but they think everything I rustle then look at is obviously going to be made of piggy food!

Its not a big deal. Its not like meat or anything like that. It might even wear down their teeth who knows

Umm, sorry but though it may not kill them, we have no idea what bread could do to them, definitely not safe. Guinea pigs should not have processed food, like any. Just fresh veggies, fruit, herbs, hay, pellets, ect but no bread.

If my piggies had anything to say about it they would eat every food :))

One of my piggies jumped out of his cage when he saw me eating duck pancake rolls and walked over to me, begging on his hind legs for it. :)) Had to tell him no. He did it again so I distracted him with some fresh veg.

I was on my holidays in Yorkshire the other week. I was well impressed at Newmillar dam - there was a sign saying not to feed the ducks bread, the reasons why not AND also suggestions of what to feed instead. All on a proper metal permanent sign.

I'm sure a lot of mis feeding is done from ignorance and, once people realise it can harm, they are happy to stop feeding the wrong things.

My sow Dot begs for pizza 😐

Tallulah is currently wheeking for garlic bread and wine after eating most of my stir fry veg. She wont get any wine or garlic bread but she may well get some spare lettuce seeing as my bean sprouts have mostly disappeared already... 8 piggies eat much more than 7, I'm not sure why except Ollie and Tallulah live in the main living room which is open plan onto the kitchen so they can hear my every fridge move... the trouble with being vegan is that apart from bread, pasta, rice, wine and onions there isnt much I can legitimately refuse to share with them!
