Have I done the right thing?

I have moved them (and Harry the Hammy) into the spare room so basically they have a whole room to themselves and it is a lovely light warm room but I feel bad that I have moved them. :(

The reason I have is because if I am honest, it looks so untidy at the mo and as it is a rented house and my landlord comes round a lot, I didn't want them to think I was turning it into a zoo with me having my dog and fish too.

The kitchen looks much better and I have set the spare room up nicely for them and they popcorned earlier but I don't want them to feel like I am pushing them away because I really am not.

When I go upstairs I can see them playing and they don't know I am there whereas in the kitchen, as soon as you went anywhere near, they got scared. Surely being in a nice private room will be better for them?

I will miss the veg cutting wheeks though. :(
 
I think they'll be able to hear you chopping veg no matter where they are in the house, so you'll still get plenty wheeks :)
 
I'm sure that they will be happy in any place in the house since they are looked after so well.:))
 
Living with 5 kids, 7 guinea pigs and a dog myself, a whole private room sounds like bliss x) I'm sure they do not feel pushed out.

My piggies are in a heated garage but I have an indoor run for cuddles and playtime, so you could bring them down for visits :)

They do have the conservatory when they want it so they won't always be in there. They look happy enough anyway and it is a sunny room so hopefully they will prefer it to the noisy kitchen!

Can I ask where you got your stand from, I think its fab!
 
Thanks, I am sure they will love the peace, they may gain more confidence if they are not constantly being scared off with passers by. You can stand at the door and they don't know you are there so I can still see them interact. :)

I got the stand from Lisajazz but not sure where you normally get them. :)

This is why I'm getting new cages. With the C&C cage taking over a big chunk of the lounge floorspace and not being able to easily clear the poop and hay spillages on the sides that are up against the walls, it just looks a mess CONSTANTLY and is driving me batty.

When where you are living it isn't actually your house, you have to consider the other ppl involved. The last thing you want is for your l'lord to get pee'd off and not renew you lease next time its due and then have to find another suitable house with a pet friendly l'lord which, lets face it, could be really difficult.

I'm sure Hoggle & Ludo love their new room! And as a previous posted said, you can always bring them down for huggles and playtime :)

I'll be selling mine soon hopefully, once new cages are sorted.

They are available from a few places, http://www.dabners.com and http://www.seapets.co.uk are two I can remember off the top of my head but I've seen them elsewhere too. Search 'Rabbit 100 Stand', 'Rabbit 120 Stand' or 'Rabbit 150 Stand' depending on your cage size.

They'll take no time getting used to their new room. And you can always look on it as, when you go in that room, it's your own little Piggie World where you can get lost in all things piggie with no distractions! :)
 
My piggies started off in my kitchen and they now live in a spare room which I use as a home office. To be completely honest, they much prefer the peace and quiet and yes, they can still here the rustling of the cabbage wrapper from 100 paces!
 
They will figure out the fridge and choping in no time and enjoy their new room.
 
Luckily for them, their new room is directly above the kitchen! :))

yes it is better that we are all happy and I don't feel bad when the landlord comes round and their is hay everywhere! :o

I will get used to it, I doubt they are as bothered as me and definately will love the peace and quiet! :)
 
It might actually be better for them out of the kitchen as kitchens tend to have big variances in temperature due to the oven being on and also can be quite damp with lots of boiling pans! I am glad we never see our landlord not sure they have even been round seen we got the guineas and a good thing too!
 
your lucky the place i rent is a 1 bedroom open plan place. the small space next to the kitchen in pet world and the whole of my downstairs is the main play area when I'm in ofcourse to keep an eye on them! so far ive lot a phone charger and the tv areial cable to them oh and a shoe for some bizare reason that they love to nibble! I'm sure they will like it in their new room. perhaps you could take the veg and prepare it in the spare room then your sure of wheeks!
 
My piggies have their own bedroom and can hear the fridge being opened no ****.In fact, I think they can hear my neighbours open their fridge! In the summer I put up a bamboo blind which shades the room. I'm sure they will be fine in their new bedroom..
 
I understand where you are coming from. We are moving rooms for tidyness!

I have 2 living rooms one in the back of the house and one in the front. We ARE in the front of the house but are moving to the back so we look like a tidier house when people come - we don't have to bring them to the main family room.

Between 2 kids, 3 cats a dog and 10 pigs I have to be super organised and cunning so it doesn't all seem a mess even though bits of it (most) are.

I have just been up again to give them their snuggle sac, fresh from the wash and they are happy. I really do think they prefer it as they aren't being interrupted every 2 mins as the kitchen is a busy room. It is just me missing seeing them when I go in there. :0
 
My 3 are in my room and angel wheeks when ever anyone is using the chopping board so dont worry they'll soon realise your chopping veg and start :))
I think the room is lovely for them and harry the hamster x

I am just being soft. That room is lovely, I just hope it doesn't get too hot but as suggested, I will get a blind fitted for them. :)

That can be my sanctuary room, get myself a little chair and sit in the sun with my pets when things are getting me down. 8;)

all my 13 are in there own bedroom(spare room) they always have been, the room is a fair way from the kitchen but there is still no issue with hearing the wheeks.
I do believe you have done the right thing, in a room they still have the passing by of people and you coming in to chat to them and tend to there needs but they also have peace and privacy which is something i think piggies appreciate.
your a great owner and I'm sure the piggies agree
 
They'll be fine in there! I love the idea of a sanctuary room :). Mine are right now in my spare room (which is also my library/guest room/sewing room) and because my flat is not big they hear me and wheek at every move :)

Perhaps you should set up a 2 way baby monitor so you can hear each other. :)
I'm sure they're very happy in their new room. It'll take a while for them to adjust to the sounds.

I'm sure they'll be fine.

It's hard to be with them all the time when they're upstairs, though.
I have this problem with my boys. I can't hear them wheeking from downstairs. They seem to be able to hear the fridge, though.

I think I miss them more than they miss me.
 
The baby monitor thing is an excellent idea! :o -c

Yes it is so difficult when they are upstairs to spend time like I did in the kitchen - I used to be able to watch them when I was cleaning and cooking. :(
