Thank you everyone!

Not much change this morning she's still squeaking despite having metacam and hour ago. Managed to cool her down last night with some cucumber.
Will of course update after we have been to the vets x

Fingers crossed for you and poor Thelma, i was hoping that she may have passed most of the chalky residue and be on the mend. Keeping my paws crossed xx

Longterm metacam can effect the kidney's it's not instant. She has only been on metacam for 4 days.

Good Luck at the Vet's today.

Its use is avoided if there's already kidney damage as it exacerbates it - in a dog or cat they'd run bloods top assess kidney function but theres not much in the way of data for guineas mallethead

Guess what my dissertation is gonna be :))

Almost every Painkiller will damage the Kidneys or liver - I know a pig with Kidney stones that was on a large dose of metacam longterm - she was always going to go into Kidney failure but Metacam allowed her to have a pain free life for many months until the decision was made to let her go.

It is a miracle in terms of my Patrick's illness he can have pain free evenings, we have tried rimadyl and vetergisic neither stopped his pain. Metacam doesn't instantly kill an animal it take's time and to be fair when it comes to quality of life - I would much rather my animal had a shorter pain free life than a long painful life.

i feel awful i've just caught up with your thread!

OMG...... whee wish darling sweet Thelma all our gentle loves, wheeeeeks and little kisses XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Back from the vets. Jenny had a good examination around her opening and couldn't feel or see any stones. So good news there.

We talked about ovarian cysts, I asked about doing an ultrasound and she said that she may have some active cysts but they would probably be really small and would not come up on the ultrasound. To show up on the ultrasound she said she would have felt them. To be sure Thelly had an injection of Chorulon, which I think helps break them down.

The urine dip showed a little less blood then on Monday, so the septrin must be doing something! :) It is still very chalky and gritty though.
We also decided to try Cartrophen so she had an injection of that to. Poor girl screamed the place down, it was awful to hear :(
I've just given them their veg and she is munching away now and possibly looks a little brighter.

The test will be when I get her out to give her her meds and some fluids, whether she squeaks or not when she does a pee. Fingers crossed, as Jenny really isn't sure what else we can do for her, but is encouraged that Thelma is still eating well.
Please everyone keep your fingers crossed that these injections have done some good, and she can have some respite from the pain.

Oh almost forgot she did some research about the vetergesic the injection only lasts in a piggie for 6hours, so a bit pointless. The oral version involves getting it right on the tongue and is apparently really hard to monitor how much they actually take in.

Thanks everyone for all your advice and support it has meant a lot x

Poor little sausage hope this treatment helps her

I think it's more noise than anything - Cameo knows what injections are all about now, and will scream before you even touch her rolleyes

Hope she's feeling better, and continues to improve!

Hope the injections help. Putt also screams the house down when she has an injection, it does make you feel awful, but you have her best interests at heart. Hope she starts feeling better. *hugs*

I'm afraid to say she is still squeaking 8...
This is breaking my heart 8...

Poor little mite, i'm pinning my hopes on the fact less blood in her wee is a good sign and i sign of slow improvement, i hope the injections help and she is on the mend soon. Love & hugs x

I am so sorry that she is still in so much pain.

Oh poor girl, I know how awful that can be. Hope she gets a bit of relief soon. (((((hugs))))) Still sending positive vibes for some improvement hun. x:laluot_29::laluot_29::laluot_29:

I'm hoping this too. I have to hold onto this hope and the fact that she is still eating.

The fact she is still eating is a very positive one, and would suggest that although she is in pain when urinating she isn't in constant pain. Piggies in pain generally don't want to eat. I hope you start to see some improvement very soon xx

i know exactly how you are feeling sweets, i am so sorry it is heartbreaking, just be comforted by knowing you are doing your best and that you love your baby.

Is she any better this morning?

Thank you for asking. Unfortunately I don't see any improvement. Her wee is still very gritty and she is still squeaking when she goes. I get the impression also that she is really struggling to go.
Her weight has dropped even more this morning she has now lost 46g since sunday (11g overnight). Which does not make any sense and worries me as she is still eating.
She's been giving me a lot of kisses the last 24hours, constantly licking me, its very sweet. Didnt think I would taste nicer than cranberry juice :)

Keep monitoring her weight, when is she due back at the vets? Did you discuss Uriflow with Jenny?

Perhaps top her up with Critical Care, if she likes it. :)

I completely forgot to ask about Uriflow mallethead However I'm back in there on monday to start some work experience so will ask her then. Thelma will also spend the day at the vets on tuesday while I'm there.

Yeah doing a weeks work experience shadowing the vets and nurses. Really hoping to get into veterinary nursing. I am worried about leaving Thelma next week though. Think I will do what you do, give a load of fluids before work and as soon as I get back.

Fabulous - I got accepted for Vet Nursing years ago but could never follow though as I'm terrified of blood etc.. wasn't the career for me.

Although recently got over my fear of needles with Patrick, I can quite happily stay with him now, but couldn't watch Bette get a pin prick :x. I'm such a child at times!

Good Luck - It's such a rewarding career! x

Thank you, I'm really looking forward to starting. Still trying to find a permanent placement though.

Fingers crossed for a permanent placement and HUGE positive vibes for Thelma :laluot_29::laluot_29::laluot_29::laluot_29:

Thelma seems to not be able to get enough of the fluids I'm syringing her. She seems really really thirsty. Now I know its great to get in as much as poss but even after about 15ml she is still really wanting more. Is this ok? should I be worried?
Also I have noticed her straining a few times before she actually goes it looks like she is struggling to pass water or poo ( she lifts her bum up as if she is going to go with a little squeak but nothing comes out) After about 3-5 times of doing this she can go. Again is it anything to worry about?
Thank you xx

Guys she is still squeaking when she urinates. It even sounds a little louder than normal :(
What more can I do?
To summarise she is on 1.3ml Septrin once daily. 0.3 Metacam twice daily. Cystease half a capsule once daily. Approx 60-70ml watered down cranberry juice every day.
She also had an injection of Cartrophen on Friday and an injection of Chorulon for Ovarian Cysts (they are not a firm diagnosis)
Please, please, please help me and Thelly, I don't know what to do. Thank God she is still eating though.
Thank you xx
