After three and a half years of giving piggies Metacam twice a day, I can FINALLY stop. It started with Christian and his bad back and finished with Meg and her bad back. I no longer have to spend around £80 every 3-6 months depending on doses and which piggies needed Metacam. Its a bit sad really but my bank balance will be happy. With Meg being helped over the Rainbow Bridge last week, it is the end of an era. All the original herd is back together again and in their prime.

I still have The Very Lovely Lexi and The One and Only Thea but they don't need medicating.

I'm so sorry you lost little Meg, we are also experiencing the loss-but-relief of no piggies to medicate right now (paws crossed touch wood!).
I just feed them and go since Clover and Puggle went over the rainbow bridge...
Clover had twice daily metacam plus glucosamine joint supplement plus buprenorphine when needed for almost a year, Puggle had metacam and cystease bladder support for a few months for chronic cystitis, both needed smelly wee beds checking and changing at least daily...
Now Luna and Blod need a Saturday floofy bum wash, and Blod needs bisolvon if she honks and wheezes, but... nobody is in pain! Its sad when they leave us but quite liberating being free from the chronic pain of loved ones- sending huge hugs x

It's so sad when they go, you build a special bond with the ones you medicate regularly. Not having had to do it for a while I'm now medicating 4, 3 are going to be long term although hopefully they won't need nebulising everyday going forward so it will be a quick twice a day medication. With syringe feeding 2 on top of everything else I feel like I'm in a bit of a spin. It's so lovely when you help very sick piggies pull through but I'm looking forward to a little bit of my life back!
Sending everyone who've suffered losses hugs. Xx

I am sorry you lost your last little family member Meg.

It is a bitter/sweet situation I can relate to. When Ted was PTS although I was totally devasted after a few weeks it felt a relief that we did not have to take Ted on his journeys up to see Simon in Northampton. It was always a gruelling journey fitted into one day which had become less and less between appointments. Even when our journey partners Jamie and Kevin took him we still had to drive to Exeter and back and then back again and then home which clocked up 400 miles! Or a long time spent In Devon which was very difficult in the pandemic

It‘s the end of an era, but you have two lovely girls and sometime in the future you may feel like more x

I've made enquiries at my local Guinea Pig Rescue into becoming a foster carer for them. Lexi and Thea are going there for 4 days at Christmas and my vet told me that they would be very well looked after as they spend a lot on their piggies. I'm going to speak to KIrsty at the Rescue in November.

Does that mean Luna no longer needs Frusol? I was under the impression it was for life?

You will be a fabulous foster mum

That’s so bitter sweet, hopefully lexi and Thea can keep the metacam at bay!
