Both my vet practices have announced that they are no longer accepting bookings for routine appointments or non-urgent surgeries. Jasmine has her last injection for ovarian cysts this week and is supposed to have a follow-up appointment two weeks after that. I almost booked her (hopefully) final check-up last week, but a lady passed out in the practice and so I decided to book it next week. I really hope Jasmine's appointment doesn't count as routine, but I think it will...

What the hell am I supposed to do?! Has anyone else had this problem? Of course I understand why the practices are doing this, but I'm left wondering what this means for my piggy? If the injections haven't worked, Jasmine will have to go in for spaying surgery which I lost my beloved Pickle to less than three weeks ago.

I've read on Google that vets are not being classed as key workers. A vet has spoken up and said the gov are making a huge mistake. I hope things work out OK for you

My vet practice isn’t offering as many appointments and you have to wait outside in the car park until they come and fetch you.

Both my cats are due their jabs in 7 weeks time although I’m hoping things will have calmed down by then

Ask the vet what measures they are putting in place if any. It might be that they are willing to do video call or phone appointments. It's not as good as the physical examination but should be able to reassure you as to how she is doing

They're doing phone consults, but I don't think that will help Jasmine. The vet needs to feel for the cysts and I will have no idea what I'm looking for.

I'm kicking myself that I just didn't book the next appointment last week. But then I'm not enough of an assh*le to insist they prioritise my request over a medical emergency...

Perhaps give them a call now and see what they suggest, whether to bring it forward if it's likely to be cancelled. I know it's not ideal but if only a hands on examination will do then there may be very few options

Just have. Her appointment is on Wednesday and that one will still go ahead - unless government advice changes in that time... Jasmine's follow-up will probably count as routine.

Fingers crossed all goes well. If she can't have her follow up all we can hope is that the injections have worked and that the cysts stay small and not causing any issues until this has blown over. Sending Jasmine healing wheeks

I looked on our nearest vet practice web site. They are doing online consultations/Skype with further check ups. People will be asked to sit in car, drop their pet at the door when called and wait in car park till a nurse brings out pet and meds to you. You have to put down symptoms on a consultation form. No more siting in the waiting room or dropping in for an appointment

Our local vets has sent emails and also posted in Facebook telling that no walk ins anymore and all should make appointments. Then everyone should stay outside in their cars and phone the reception when they arrive. They will be given a buzzer when they are called. They said that everything is sanitised before and after they are given. Our local vets are mostly farm vets so they can't stop. They are asking clients to ring them if they are not sure what to do. I'm really crossing fingers my piggies don't get sick.🤞🤞🤞

Unfortunately this situation unprecedented. We have to all play it by ear. You should be able to find a petition to reclass vets as key workers run by Change.org underway.

Many vet clinics have already moved to using distancing measures to protect themselves and to enable them to keep vital life-saving services going, if necessary on a restricted basis as much as possible.

Unfortunately, it may mean that your follow up appointment may be cancelled. :(

I have stickied a thread at the top of this section: Vet visits/emergencies during coronavirus/Covid-19 lockdown
