I'm running out of paper bedding. I might result to shredded paper in the weekend, since I've got loads to shred anyway. Fitch 20kg is still out of stock and I can't justify buying the 10kg for almost £30 cost. Kaytee Clean & Cosy is also out of stuck. I don't know if teabag paper will be a good substitute but hubby said it won't be. So in the end, I ordered Aubichick 20kg online which cost me £15.35 including delivery. For those who use this, what are your thoughts? Will it be soft enough for my piggies or is it fine and not like the shavings? I don't like to get back to megazorb if I can avoid it because it's too dusty for my liking.

Argh I feel your pain. I am in the same situation and I hate megazorb. I’ve bitten the bullet and paid more for the Fitch. There is a tiny (and possibly unfair) part of me wondering if Fitch are doing this to increase profits. If they are out of stock then surely they are properly out of stock and even the small bales would not be available? One other option is Tropibed which I have tried and liked but was expensive, combined with megazorb which is much cheaper, it’s not too bad as it reduces the dust and smell of the megazorb.

I use Aubiose (the horse version) and I love it. I think the horse version has bigger ‘bits’ so yours is probably softer than mine, but I have no issues with it and piggies’ feets are nice and healthy. I can lay my hand on the Aubiose and put my full weight on it and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable

Thanks for your feedback! I do hope the Aubichick will be good. I have to wait till next week though coz as usual, it's the weekend again.

I think someone said here they can't get paper that they use to make fitch. So they are just selling all their stocks left. I just hope they start doing it again coz I really like it for my piggies.

I checked Tropibed and it looks like sand?

Fitch have realised that there is a big profit to be made from their bedding and are actually going to sell the product in even smaller packs (I think they said 4kg). They have even bought a new packaging machine to do this.
They actually told me that people are willing to pay three times the current price and that those are the type of customers they want. To be honest I was astonished.
I think I will have to change to all fleece as Fitch will be too expensive.

I'll have a look at it. In case Aubichick won't be satisfactory, at least there are other options. Have you used this?
yes I have - Finacard's OK . I use fleece bedding nowadays …. and Aubiose in hay trays

I think they're mistaken - I wouldn't buy it at 3 times the price . I won't buy it at the price they're selling now. The only time I've ever bought fitch is when a few forum members clubbed together and bought it in bulk.

I went to Fitch this week and they have said that they have stopped selling large quantities of the 20kg bags online as people have been selling them on in smaller quantities at a profit. I got the impression there has been a small industry of people doing this.

I go to the Fitch premises to buy the bedding as they aren't that far away and it's only about £10 for 20kg if you pick it up. They said that they want to keep supplying their regular customers, so if you want some, I'd suggest talking to them. If you aren't buying 10 at a time I think they are very happy to help genuine pet owners.

I got the impression that they felt that the other paper bedding available was essentially the same as theirs and was being sold at a premium, so they have moved into this market. They also said that a lot of people found 20kg too bulky to store (I can relate to this - mine is kept in the hall behind the front door! - who said piggies take over your life?) and had asked for smaller packs. If you speak to them, rather than accept that the 20kg isn't for sale, they might be able to sell you some.

I love fitch, but am moving to a 4 x 3 and fleece with fitch in the hay area, as it will be cleaner ( poo can be picked up) and probably cheaper in the long run, even with fitch at 50p per kilo.

Let us know how you get on

Thank you very much for your reply! At least now I know why it's not on sale online. I'd be calling them next month (since I already ordered the Aubichick) to inquire. I prefer using fitch in the hutch for the piggies and fleece in the attached run on the floor.
