Inka has not passed any poops in the last 24 hours. She seems okay otherwise; bright, alert, grooming herself. Sits in her wooden house most of the time, but still seems interested in what is happening outside. She ate most of her veg and greens this morning and a bit of Timothy hay, but has not drunk much water. She does not seem to be in any discomfort or pain. I don't think she has a blockage creating gas. Her belly feels as malleable as normal. I cannot get her to the Vet until Friday, due to work commitments. What can I do to help her pass her droppings?
(This seems to have occurred since she had a couple of JR Grainless pellets yesterday.)

Try and get more fluids into her to help things move along. Get her on the floor to run around as this will help things move also. Also try a probiotic as sometimes a piggy that seems to be not pooing at all actually is, but the droppings are all being eaten due to a disturbance of bacteria in the gut.

If you are sure she isnt bloated, keep an eye on her weight- this will tell you if shes not eating enough food. If that is the case then you will need to step in with syringe feeding and get a vet to investigate the underlying cause.

@Adelle , thank you.
Had her out on my lap for an hour this afternoon. She peed twice with no problems, but still no poops. Also did Coprophagy (is that right?) twice, so they are coming out. She does a LOT of poops (dozens) normally. I can't believe she would eat them all! She lives in a C and C cage so can run about whenever she wants. She is being a bit picky with her food. I offered parsley and cucumber whilst she was on my lap. She only took a few bites of the cucumber, which she would normally wolf down. I will try and do as you suggest and syringe-feed her some water. I won't be feeding those Grain-less pellets again - at least not to Inka.

Yep agree with Adelle re fluids - I have a gut issue piggie and he likes cooled camomile tea (has some syringed at bedtimes) but just water will do! Also suggest offering rough cardboard eg kitchen roll inner roll chopped up - piggies seems to know when their gut is weird and will go for mega roughage so worth having it available. Also pooh soup from healthy pig can be good to reintroduce some good bacteria - actimel for piggies.
Hope the poohs appears soon but I would be ready to ring vet if needed.Fingers crossed for Inka

@lauraboara , thank you.
I will try and make some poo soup from one of the other piggies. She has a cardboard box filled with hay and some cardboard toys, which she has never touched.
. If it was the Grain-less pellets that caused the problem, strange that Inka is the only one affected although they all had a couple of them.

Re Poo soup from another pig !

personaly l would not give poo soup, espesialy from another pig,

as l understand it Poo Soup, or ceclatrobe poos, are poos that are produced
by the individual pig, to aid the digestive function ! it is questionable whether or not one pigs spesial poos are in fact
compatable ,
also , can you identifi a ceclatrope ?

you could well be filling your pig with nothing more than wast materal at a time when he need nurisment the most .

your safest bet would be to see a vet

Its good she is passing poos, but the fact shes eating them could signify a gut upset. Start her on probiotics and top up with little cc or pellet mash. If she doesnt perk up then theres probably an underlying cause x

How is she doing this evening? x

:D Hi folks!
Inka still eating very little, though had a drink of water this morning. I didn't give her any veg in case it was bloat. Belly still soft but hollow-sounding when fingers flicked against it. Otherwise, still bright and alert. I syringe-fed her some poo soup yesterday. Still no poops, so took Inka to the Vet's this morning. Christine, the vet, gave her a thorough examination, squeezing her tummy, feeling for Lymph nodes. Said she could feel a few poops inside. Christine agreed with me that Inka's belly was soft and she did not have bloat. Lymph nodes normal. She tried to look at Inka's teeth but there was too much food in her mouth to see the molars. I had syringe-fed her some mashed pellets earlier. Christine was thinking meds to stimulate the guts. Then Inka passed a small amount of blood and some very small shapeless poops. There was blood in her urine too. Christine's thoughts changed to Cystitis or womb trouble, though she said that the womb felt okay. Inka was given a Metacam (for cats) injection and a Metoclopramide injection. Take-home meds; Septrin 0.5 ml twice daily and Metacam 0.4 ml once per day. I gave Inka her veg and greens after we got home and she ate almost all of it.

Sorry to hear she is still having problems but at least now you have an idea of whats going on and a plan to treat it! Hopefully its just a nasty UTI affecting her appetite and causing the blood and she will be right as rain in no time!xx

Sending much love to Inka x

Glad you got to see vet and got some meds and some ideas. Hope the meds sort it for her. I would go for a scan quite soon though if she doesn't pick up. But let's hope she keeps poohing and improving!

:D Update on Inka.
Inka is doing much better, has been drinking and eating a lot more. She ate almost all of her veg and greens this morning (left the broccoli). Currently asleep in her hay-box! Had her out for an hour last night and she did a whole pile of poops (one at a time!), still soft but right shape and size. I was only given enough Septrin for 3.5 doses, but still have a bit of Metacam left. Should I get some more? She seems much more like her normal self and not in any pain or discomfort.

Worth chatting to the vet

Love to little Inka x

Would speak to the vet- any septrin courses are usually 7-14 days as it is a weaker antibiotic. You dont want to stop too soon either and the bacteria ends up resistant to the septrin. Glad shes picking up though!x

I'm glad things are going better. Sending healing vibes to Inka :hug:

:D Thanks, folks!
Inka is back to her normal self, thank Heavens. Doing most of her poops, which have firmed up now, in her hay box. Eating and drinking for herself too. She ate ALL of her veg and greens this morning, including the broccoli, which I thought she'd gone off! Has been eating her pellets as well. I went back to the Vet yesterday and got some more Septrin. Christine only prescribed enough for one day yesterday. Mis-typed it on the computer I expect. I also got a large sachet of Oxbow Critical Care, just in case anything like this happens again.
