Hi
Every time my girls are in season, they both make the deep throated noise and we get lots of bottom wiggling at each other. I have noticed that Butter now seems to do it all the time, almost like its a habit! Sometimes she does it around her sister Peanut, but most times she just walks around doing it to nobody in particular.
I just wondered if this is normal? 🤔
They are both happy and healthy, it just sounds like we are living with a baby dinosaur!
Any advice or tips are gratefully appreciated, thankyou 😃 x

This is rumblestrutting.

its normal for them to do it when they are having a strong season. How old is she? If sows behave like they are in season all the time, then it can be a potential sign of ovarian cysts - not always, but it’s something to bear in mind if she is in the prime age for cysts developing

Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)

Thankyou

They are both 5 and a half months old.

I will get her checked out just incase, want to make sure she is ok.

Thank you so much for the link 😀 x

in that case, they are a bit young for it to be cysts - it sounds like normal teen piggy strong season

Hi, I am following on from my previous thread......I wondered if there is anything that helps calming piggies down when in Season or if anyone has any tips?
The last couple of Seasons Butter has had have been quite strong and results in lots of Rumblestrutting and stressing out her sister. We moved them inside last night just so we could keep an eye on them both as she started to get very boisterous. Thankfully it seemed she had worn herself out so much, she had a good nights sleep (much to her sisters relief!). Any tips or advice would be great, thankyou 😊 x x

Youve got hormonal teenagers, it’s something they’ve got to go through and there’s nothing you can do to stop it or calm them down. It’ll get a bit easier as they get older, but they can still have strong seasons throughout adulthood

the only things you can do are things like ensuring you’ve got a large cage, multiple of every item and that each hidey has two exits. This will only ensure they can’t get cornered and have no reason to bicker with each other over an item but it’s not going to stop them, they are just doing what hormonal teens do.

Presumably they live outside? As you’ve moved them inside, you shouldn’t really put them back out again now as you don’t want them exposed to fluctuations in temperature.

Thankyou so much for your advice 😀 We have made sure they have 2 of everything in their cage, lots of places to hide and escape routes for them both! We will just have to ride the hormonal storm! 🤪
They live in a heated shed outside with all mod cons - I wanted to keep my eye on both of them last night to make sure fights didn't break out.....but as you say arguments and bickering will happen!
Thank you again 🥰 x x
