Can somebody please put my mind at rest! My neutered boar Edward is around 12 months old. He is weighing in between 1060g and 1100g. I realise that he probably has some growing left to do but is this a normal weight for his age?

Enoch was always a small boy but suddenly grew chunky and weighed in at 1300g at his heaviest He sadly lost the weight when he had dental problems and he went to the bridge :(

I'm wondering if Edward will either suddenly chunk up as he gets older, stay as a small boar or should I be worried?

He is currently on eye drops for a mild eye infection and received a full health check by my vet at the time and she didn't mention him being too thin or anything.

I wouldn't worry. All pigs are different. I've had big boars knocking on 1.6kg and small boars who never broke 1kg. All were happy and healthy. It's more important to monitor weight so you know when any significant loss is occurring, as it is one of the first indicators of illness in many cases.

I had a boar who weighed no more than 800g in his prime adulthood, and currently have a 5 month old sow at 850g and a 9 month old sow at 1040g- they really do vary per pig x

Barley and Tim are both about 1000g. They are older but have been around that weight as long as we have had them.

He's fine! Mine weigh 900 and 950, and they're both the picture of health (vying over who got the most cuddles yesterday). Some piggies may be above/below average weight wise, but be perfectly healthy.

My heaviest is 1285 my lightest is 870 they are all about a year old

Yes, don't worry Claire, the actual weight is not important, its the body condition that counts, obviously significant weight change needs investigation. Give the 3 E's my love x

Just as everyone else has said, adult weights can vary between individuals a fair bit. I have 7 adult boys at the moment - all on exactly the same regime and diet but the size and weight all vary from very close to 1kg up to my big boys who are 1.4kg with some in between! I use weight as a guide to health but also tend to have a feel over their hips and see if they feel bony or different from normal as well. Edward is probably being polite and letting the girls eat first ;)

My Jon Snow eats like a pig! Literally! And he's never gotten over 1100g. He's 3 yeara old now. The vet says he's perfectly healthy.
