I have a spayed sow who seems to be skinny. I can feel her ribs, though she’s not skin and bones. But I can definitely feel them more than my two boys. But her belly is plump!

after feeling her ribs, I weighed her and she’s 803, and her vet visit last Friday she was 770. So I’m guessing her belly is full when I weighed her ! But her ribs are bothersome. We’ve been dealing with bats of bloat and gas , but she’s eating her hay and pellets well!

Hi!

Is her belly feeling soft or hard?

It has moments of both. When it’s harder minutes of tummy rubs help soften it back. But for the most part her stomach is softer.

Please see a vet if your guinea pig has ongoing/recurring bloating issues. There can be a number of reasons.

We have. Last Friday actually, and told me to put her on Simethicone three times daily. And come back if it doesn’t work for xrays. that since her stomach exam and fecal exam came back clearly, the vet informed me if the gas meds doesn’t help then bring her back in for more exams and medicine.
 
Was she recently spayed? Occasionally scar tissue can cause the intestines to stick to it causing an adhesion. This will slow the guts down and lead to gas and bloating. Not sure if that's a possibility here? I had it happen to one of my girls late last year and it took just over a week of syringe feeding and 2 different motility meds 3 times each day to get things back to normal.

No. I’m unsure when she was spayed. But it was more than a year ago
