A friend of mine who is a veterinary nurse has expressed concern over a guinea pig in the adoption centre at Milton Keynes Pets at home. Apparently he is a neutered ginger male (very unusual if he is), but he is having problems with a continually prolapsing penis. I am a little worried about this as i dont trust PAH to rehome this pig responsibly. I dont have the space for another pig at present but i wanted to make people aware of him if they feel the need to help.

I dont advocate adopting from there much, but i am a little worried about him.

oh dear, you would have thought they wouldn't sell him to someone without them being aware of the potential dangers or cost of vet bills but I wouldn't trust them to ensure this

Why would there be vet bills? a prolapsed penis can be rectified with a tube of lubricant (eg. KY Jelly), you just clean them, dab a bit around the shaft and tuck it back in...yes if it's a bad prolapse this needs to be done on a regular basis (ie. every day), but it shouldn't require a trip to the vets every time...just a knowledgable owner with the right experience.
