:...

I was just attempting to cut Mowbray's nails... my flatmate held her in her blankie while I held her fore paw and cut the nails. I'd done 2 and she was screaming bloody murder and baring her teeth (which she does even when the vet cuts them). Suddenly blood bubbled out of her nose and shot onto the floor. We stopped straight away and she just flopped into her blankie. There was no more blood (than that first drop). After a while of stroking her she started wheeking as normal. Put her back in the cage with her sister and she's tucked straight into her nuggets. I phoned the vet and told them everything and they didn't seem at all worried. But I'm absolutely traumatised and freaking out.

Oh not read anything about that before...perhaps it was the stress of the procedure she doesn't like...not sure...hopefully one of the more knowledgeable wheeky keepers can help you on this one. Good Luck.

I'd be freaked out too.

Never seen this before but am not that experienced. Hopefully someone else can give you a better answer. :)

Nothing I have ever experienced or heard of - it could have been the stress.

Hoepfully, all stays normal after that shock!

I can imagine how much of a shock that was for you!

There are two 'occasions' I know of that can lead to blood coming from the nose. One is respiratory infection - though this is a very uncommon symptom - and the other is a piece of hay having been stuck in the nose and scratched it.

As it was just a drop of blood, provided it does not recur, I would suspect the latter.

My Moomin pig had a violent nosebleed for no apparent reason, blood all up Walls of cage, quite dramatic. Took her straight to the vet, by the time we got there she had cleaned her face and there was no sign of it- vet probably thought I was mad. Sounds like stress related in your case maybe?

Mow seems ok

Thanks for comments. It's still a bit of a mystery. Don't think I can bear to do nail trimmy myself anymore, even though Melton's ok(ish) with it. Will have to get the vet to do it.

Mowbray seems fine now. She's running around her run with her sister and chomping celery as we speak.
