hello saturday evening i noticed monkey had a nose bleed not pouring or anything but it was wet with blood my partner said its probaley hay so we cleaned him up and no blood in the morning cleaned him out in the afternoon and fresh hay etc and his nose was bleeding later that day I'm not sure if its hay or not as when i got up this morning went to check on him and he had two sprigs hanging out of his nose, its only bleeding on the left side my partner says not to give him hay today to see if it is that but I'm not sure any advice please?

I think this piggy needs a visit to the vets! There is no way of knowing what is causing the bleeding over the internet, he needs to be checked over-something could be stuck.

It may also be the heat causing vasodilation, try to keep the cage/hutch as cool as possible with lots of shade until you get him to the vets.

definately a trip to the vets, this happened to my mums pig earlier this year and we lost him, we think he had a uri, but we had previously dismissed the blood thinking it was red pepper, but it happened again on a day when he hadnt had pepper.

I dont mean to alarm you so sorry if it comes across as a scare story, i dont intend it to, but just to be on the safe side i would hate to have not said anything and the worst happen.

Hope your piggy is ok x

hello ive rang the vets and appointment is booked ive given them a cold water bottle wrapped in a towel incase he is over hot though temp in room is 22 so I'm not sure its that but fingers crossed it aint something more serious than a slish from the hay. thanks

well went to vets she looked him over and looked up what little of his nose she could see she thinks it may be the hay or megazorb thats got up there and split the skin but she wasnt sure she gave him some antibiotics as a precaution and ive got to take him back tomorrow if there is more bleeding. so fingers crossed

This happened a few wks ago to my piggie dillon....however it didnt bleed much or for long. He is a very excitable pig and will often crash into things so think this was the case and a few days later he lost his top teeth so by the looks he crashed and caused damage to the teeth below gum level too....silly piggie.

Hope your piggie is ok x

hello thank you for reply I'm sorry your pig lost a tooth poor thing my vet checked monkey teeth too because something about the gums can cause nose bleeds but his gums and teeth were fine and there is no more blood but as my vet has said the best bedding is newspaper and hay ive removed the megazord from the cage today funny how the cheapest way to keep them is the best the vet has said i could try finacard as its only cardboard but if paper and hay the best ill stick with that.
