nosebleed

my guinea pig oreo had a nosebleed last night , not sure what to do, it was from one nostril. could it have been from hay or something ?

Yes some times hay can injure a nose. Has it stopped bleeding now? Do they seem ok in themselves? If they are acting normal just keep an eye on them. If it happens again I’d get a vet appointment.

A nose bleed can come from something stuck in the nostril (hay or adenoids) but it can also have much more serious causes, which are thankfully much rarer but they do happen (a tooth growing the wrong way into the nose or - if you are really unlucky - a brain tumour.

The only warning I had of my Carwyn's developing brain tumour was a one-sided nosebleed two months earlier, the signs of which had disappeared an hour later.

Please see a vet if you have any concerns over his well being or if there is more bleeding.

it has stopped , and she’s been acting fine she’s eating hay right now and she was squeaking earlier . how can i wipe off the dried blood?

thank you for the reply. I'm calling the vet tomorrow, other than the nose bleed she has been acting normal.

Some of the blood is still dried around her nose , how can i get it off without hurting her?

Is there a lot of dried blood?
To be honest, I’d just leave it and let her clean herself when she is ready.

it is kind of a lot just around her nostril and i was scared to get it off because i didn’t want to pull on her skin. i tried a damp rag like around her nostril but i didn’t want to get water up her nose.

okay thank u! she has cleaned most of it off now i just wiped the bit off of her feet where she had wiped it from her nose.
