Adult Guinea Pig
I can't believe I'm writing in here again so soon after the loss of Tigger and Bean...
Today my darling little Leah left to rejoin Tigger and Bean and cause mayhem and mischief over the Rainbow Bridge. Her passing, thankfully, was not the same as Tigger and Bean's and it appears that she passed in her snoozing time sometime this afternoon. Leah had cancer and while we weren't expecting it to take her so soon, we can only assume that she hid the effects from us - being her usual cheery self right until the end.
This morning I went in to greet the pigs and give them breakfast and Leah, you were exactly the same as you've been since the moment you came home - my Chief Mischief Maker (or Rabble Rouser!). If the pigs weren't awake by then I can guarantee that with your screaming and running around like a crazy pig they soon were. There was nothing to make me think that anything could be wrong with you - you were as perfect as you could be considering your condition.
Leah, you were one unique piggy. I've never had a pig so friendly, inquisitive and cheeky as you. You were never a fan of being picked up but you were more than happy to be out in the open with me around; checking out my work when cleaning you out, sitting on my dustpan to make sure that I was doing it right. First in the queue for veggies - where food was concerned you didn't hold back. Many a time I've sat in your shed only to have you clamber all over me as if to say "well, where's mine then?!".
I can't put into words how much I'm going to miss you. You were one of many in your herd but you were definitely the most outgoing and cheerful pig. You were literally at the bottom of the pile in the life of sows with us but you didn't care. As long as you got to cause trouble and get involved with anything going on you were happy - you made your herd so bright and energetic.
I am so, so blessed to have been considered worthy enough to give you a home. I've had many pigs in my life so far but you will always hold a very special place in my heart. You've rubbed off on so many of your friends and I can only imagine it'll just be a matter of time before somepig steps into your shoes (I have my suspicions that it's going to be Jess or one of the youngsters!) to cause mayhem in your wake.
Thank you for being such an amazing piggy. I'll miss you so much.
Love, mum.
