I went to pets at home today to get some dog bit so i had to go look at the piggys in the adoption bit

There is 2 little boy in there who were looking for a home but looked like the had had a fight .

I asked the man who worked there about them it he went out of his way to check them out even gave the another little house to play in .

They had not had a fight just water had drop on his back and looked like a cut but he was 100% fine .

I think if they are there saturday I'm going to get them as i have just got a nice new cage for some more piggys .

So i have to give pets at home wokingham 10 out of 10 for the care the the pets there.

I also give my local Pets at Home, Gravesend a 10 out of 10, due to be talking out of a sale because they felt it was in the best interests of my animals.

They talked me out of a £35 sale, when I complimented them on their ethics, they quoting that 'Animals welfare ALWAYS come before sales here'

Very very impressed. The animals are ALWAYS in fantastic condition and they are given piles of fresh hay every day, as well as good hideaways.

Gravesend Pets at Home - 10/10

I like the p@h round about here. The new one in linwood has a vets inside and I have to say the vet in there is amazing! Fair enough under the circumstances the vet was very kind and proffessional. One complaint about that one was that in the adoption but a bunnys water bottle had fell down and I had said to a member of staff he said he would get it in a minute but 10 mins later he still hadn't done it. And also the staff in the clydebank branch who nursed my pixie pig back to health :D can't fault them for that x

I can't fault the Pets at Home I've ever been in... Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Scunthorpe, Hull & Lincoln (I like to shop;) ). The animals have always looked happy & healthy enough.

However I made the decision not long after I joined here not to shop in pet shops that sell animals (apart from fish). It does mean I'm quite limited though, and most of the things I want have to be ordered online now.

They still sell small animals and reptiles bred purposefully for profit, which is wrong in my book. Especially when some/most of them are sourced from dreadful 'animal warehouses'. Where the animals are bred with no regard for their health/welfare needs. I wouldn't call that good animal welfare would you?

Obviously it isn't up to the individual branches to decide that they are going to stop selling these animals, it is up to head office. So, while it is great that the individual branches that you have all mentioned have staff that a responsible with the animals they have there, I still think Pets at Home head office need to take a long hard look at themselves because their slogan "Where the pets come first" is laughable when it comes to small animals.grrrr

I certainly wont set foot in the place, let alone spend any money there, which would be supporting the animal breeding treadmill.

Each to their own of course....

Yeah Stockport P@H has an independent vet inside too. I gave the shop a 1/10 originally for selling me piggies with ringworm but then I didn't know anything back then. I've learnt a lot and would never buy a piggy from a shop again P@H paid for all their treatment and the vet was very good.

Ive never purchased any guinea pigs from P@H but when ever I have been they have always looked healthy. On the other hand I have purchased a bird from then=m that was infested with mites :{, and a month later they stopped selling birds, plus I always find that alot of theyre fish look ill and lifeless, which is a sign of illness, so what other animals are ill in the shop :^-. Plus I thik the prices of guinea pig in P@H is extortionet at £20 each :{ I prefer to get them from people who can no longer care for them or have accidently got 2 of opposite sexs
