I just wondering if it's normal for this time of year with it being colder for my girls not to drink all that much?

They have a small water bottle and i change the water twice a day i only half fill it and it only seems to go down a tiny bit.
They are running around as normal and eating plenty of veg, they just have me worried :{

any advice ?

thanks x

I'd be interested in answers too, as my two don't drink at all. They are healthy, and bedding is wet enough, often enough! So I suspect they are getting all the hydration they need from the piles of veggies they get.

Hi Sharon & Tigerrr

I have two boys one of which, Jules, drinks like a fish whereas Mo hardly drinks at all then when he does I wonder if there is something wrong with him.

I am sure I have read on here that maybe in the colder wether some may not drink as much but I am sure there will be someone who can advise on this as I am a first time piggy owner and have only had the two piggies that I have now :))

I am glad to read its not just my girls who are not drinking. they also seem to wee as much as always.

I was thinking of spraying the veg with water or keeping it wet after washing it.

My boys are nearly 4 but still ma wee babies the're quite comical wee things i love just sitting watching ma wee boys going about their daily eating, chatting, arguments

I would love more but at the moment I think I had better stick to the two :))

Some guinea pigs are real "drinkers" and others drink little or not at all. With a regular diet of fresh veg they are not in danger of getting dehydrated.

And piggies seem to go through phases when they are drinking more and then less!

Don't worry too much SharonR and Tigerrr it is normal for them to drink less in this cold weather....it just depends on the pig really.

If you are giving them washed greens once a day then they will get some water from that. If you're worried you could give them some cucumber as it has a high water content.

Weigh them regularly (maybe once times a week) and keep a record, as usually if a pig is unwell they loose weight quite quickly. However if you are really worried and think they seem unwell like not wanting to eat or don't seem themselves..take them to the vets as it could be somethings wrong.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Wiebke and Cozmo :) My girls are putting on weight and eating tones of fresh veg/greens.

I shall relax now and try not to worry. thanks again :(|)
