hi everyone!
When I got my piggies a few weeks ago I had no idea about how bad pet shops can be for adopting/purchasing animals! So please go lightly on me when I say I got my two lovely little girls from pets at home:soz:(trust me I'm paying the price, turns out both of the poor babies had ringworm.)
I didn't realise there were so many piggies out in shelters or I would have adopted a pair in a heartbeat!
So yeah, a week after fetching my two babies home, I noticed Rosie (the lilac pig) had a bald patch on her back, it took me a week because she has such long fur you couldn't see it until you stroked her hair backwards. I bought some treatment for her and disinfected her cage every two days. As she was with her companion (bear, the brown agouti pig) since birth (there sisters) I didn't want to break their bond and left her in, so there both being treated and Rosie is practically clear! :xd:

So yeah after that issue, there's the matter of not drinking. When I say they are not drinking, I mean at all. I've had them nearly 3 weeks and they haven't touched a drop. I've seen online that pigs can sometimes get enough water from their veg which is likely as I have been spoiling them (I'm SORRY OK? It was my way of saying sorry after treating them for ringworm:roll:

Is this okay? They get plenty of veg, they pretty much get a small serving every time they wheek for some! As I said it's been 3 weeks and they are perfectly happy, muNching away and popcorning. I'm sorry this post is so long:eek:

Hi!

Did you get a vet diagnosis for ringworm or did you home treat on spec? Ringworm and mange mites can look quite similar, especially in the early stages, and both start with bald patches. You can reclaim any vet cost that have been incurred by you within two weeks of buying from p@h and you can also complain to your local council about trading standards; if you can do that with a vet bill attached, you have a much better stand.

Drinking from a bottle is something young piggies learn from their elders; it is not instinctive. You can place a water dish under the bottle and hope that they will eventually figure it out. However, as long as you feed extra veg, they get all the necessary fluid from their food and have no incentive whatsoever to try.

Hi,
I checked around at symptoms for ringworm and thought it was the most likely one. She had a scabby patch with pink patches, like how humans get ringworm! She also developed a little scab on her nose that soon fell off a couple of days after treatment, she got a little dry skin on her ear too. However since the treatment she's 10X better. She wasn't really itching, which is another reason I assumed it to be ringworm. I decided to buy a home treatment and use it for a week, if the symptoms improved - great! (The spray was £10) if not, I would promptly take her and her sister to see the vet and get their take on it!

It seems to have worked, so I'm glad I tried it first.

I found it strange that they don't drink because at the shop they were drinking from bottles, I also tried the waterbowl idea but they just kept kicking sawdust in it and not using it :P. I just wanted to check about the water because I found it unusual haha. Thanks for the info! P@h told me nothing about the vets warrenty or I would have taken them immediately! I'm just glad the home treatment seems to be working xx
