My little piggie Frankie is 4 years old and had a dental last Wednesday. He will not eat independently, he is now getting cross with syringe feeding, yesterday he managed a bit of parsley but is very reluctant unless you start putting it in his mouth. He is on emerprid and rheumocam. Has anyone got any top tips to get him eating again. I've tried grating veg and softening his nuggets. Thank you 😊

I’m sorry Frankie is struggling with eating.

I had a piggy who didn’t eat for two weeks after his dental. They can lose their confidence with eating. I tried different hays, grass but he wasn’t really tempted until he felt better. I had to get him another pain killer too! I’ve never had a piggy need two painkillers!

Are you feeding critical care or EmerAid? I switched from CC to EmerAid and he would literally eat it from the syringe without me having to take him out of his cage. That really helped.

I hope Frankie is soon feeling better and starts to eat for himself. 🤞🏻

Thank you! I've just ordered some EmerAid i was feeding CC. I've picked him grass, dandelions you name it I've tried everything. I'm just worried now. He seems bright enough but just not interested in the slightest. Thanks for your reply.

Are you weighing him daily? That way you can give him the correct amount of EmerAid a day.

It’s so hard to get their weight stable. How many mls of critical care are you managing to get in in a 24 hour period?

One of the first things he started to eat was his nuggets and pea flakes.

I’m so sorry to hear this

How much syringe feed are you getting into him in each 24 hour period?
He will need at least 60ml to stop weight loss.

How much pain meds is he on?

What did he have done at the dental. What was wrong with his teeth?

About 50mls begrudgingly, I tried pea flakes and baby corn is his favorite but he just refuses and turns away. He is on a 2kg dose of rheumocam he weighed 822g today.

Thanks for the tip he definitely prefers EmerAid still fights it but not as much, popping him back o the vets tomorrow to see if he can have some more pain meds.

Hi, hope his weight improves soon. There’s two flavours of Emeraid - Intensive Care Herbivore and Herbivore Sustain. My girl was obsessed with the Intensive Care stuff so might be worth trying both flavours to see what encourages him to eat the most :)

Glad it’s not such a struggle with the EmerAid. Good luck at the vets. ❤️

Just a little update, vets added some paracetamol and he has started eating by himself again, with some top up syringe feeds. Fingers crossed he is going in the right direction. Thanks for all the advice. 😊
