Hi, my guineapigs normally LOVE their hay but recently I’ve noticed that they haven’t been eating it as much - if not at all. They are still eating their nuggets and veg and don’t seem to be losing wait at all. It has been quite hot recently so not sure if it could have something to do with that?
Thank you

Hi!

Please have your piggies vet checked and see whether they need gut stimulants.
Loss of appetite can be an after-effect of heat exhaustion as the gut movement can be affected (partial GI stasis).

You can find more information in the link below. Heat exhaustion is the milder form of a potentially lethal heat stroke, but it can still damage the body. Heat stroke symptoms and what to do

Thank you, will check with the vets. I have just checked on them and there is less hay but will take them to the vets still.

You monitor the hay/food intake by weighing daily at the same time. Hopefully your piggies have bounced back after being off their dry food in the heat because they might have been feeling a bit hot, dehydrated and unwell.
Weight - Monitoring and Management

Keeping the water as cool as possible is important - use crushed ice and a sock for insulation even indoors on a scorcher. Otherwise refill regularly from the fridge. ;)

Mmmm, you should definitely go to the vets, as 80% of a guinea pigs diet should be hay.
