Hi everyone
I posted on Saturday about my little pig crunchie who was out of sorts and not really eating or drinking and had been to the vets and given painkillers and ranitidine. Fast forward to today and he is now drinking by himself (was having to syringe him water) and eating hay and veggies himself (not quite at the same rate as before but enough) but he's still not eating his nuggets he's maybe had 4/5 each day since Saturday. I have got an appointment at the vets tomorrow afternoon just for a post meds check up. would you recommend syringe feeding him nuggets or as he is eating veg and hay would you leave him as he is

Hi everyone
I posted on Saturday about my little pig crunchie who was out of sorts and not really eating or drinking and had been to the vets and given painkillers and ranitidine. I would monitor his weight, if he is stable leave him be, but if its dropping then supplement with syringe feeds. What does the vet think is wrong?

To be honest she said he seemed fine although let out a little squeak when she pressed his belly like it bothered him but when she listened to it said it sounded fine, the ranitidine and painkillers were to be on the safe side really, he has perked up today he has drunk by himself for the first time today - a few times too, and when I rustled my crisps earlier he got excited and came to the bars and squeaked, something he hadn't done since Thursday morning. I will weigh him later and compare this against Saturday when he went to the vets.
Thanks your advice

Had his poo output stopped or slowed at all? It is good news he is eating hay and veggies. Definitely check his weight. I am presuming the vet was thinking gas. please let us know how they get on. Sending healing vibes x

She said she was prescribing the ranitidine as a precaution while he was eating very well? To be honest it's the first time I've had any problems with crunchie or had to take him to the vets. To be honest before I took him to the vets he had been in hiding for about 24 hours so was hard to tell, he was definitely still pooing but was hardly eating and not drinking at all. Went to weigh him and the batteries have gone on the scales and I have no spare ones of that size in, will grab some tomorrow and get him weighed. Other than not eating his nuggets he is very nearly back to his normal self, just less vocal. Thanks Billy

Hay is more important than nuggets, but make sure he's getting plenty of vitamin C from his veg (red pepper is especially good). I guess the main concern is his weight and the fact that he's not doing his normal things. Sometimes there is a mouth problem involved when they don't like to eat hard food like nuggets. Did the vet check his teeth?

Thanks both, the vet did check his teeth and said they were fine, he did seem to wince a little bit when she pressed his belly so she has put it down to his stomach, he has perked up a lot and is now back st the bars and excited when he can hear the rustle of his lettuce/kale/pepper packet, he isn't squeaking like he was but is definitely excited again. I am going to try a different type of nugget as although it's the one he normally has it is a brand new packet. will check his weight after work

So we went back to the vets this afternoon and he has lost 40g since Saturday and now weighs 860g, the bet has prescribed more meds to go alongside the other two this is meant to boost his appetite and combat acid and said to monitor him for the next few days. If this doesn't work he is talking about anaesthetic to do further examinations of his mouth and his stomach as these are the most common problem areas although he said they both seem fine. Fingers crossed the beds do the trick :(

Thank you, he's definitely perked up since the first lot of meds as he wasn't eating anything at all at first and now he is happily eating veg and hay, plus he wasn't drinking either and he is doing this again now. Hopefully he's back to his normal self soon, have been worried sick about him and keep waking up in the night to check he's ok, I don't know how i could tell my son if anything happened to him he'd be distraught

Thanks I hope so, He's not wheeking yet but yesterday and this morning he was back up and chewing on the bars for his food, but tonight he seems to have a bit of a sulk on after his vet visit

So Crunchie has got over his sulking from last night, is still only eating how are you? and certain veg, romaine lettuce and kale, with the odd bit of carrot, turns his nose up at everything else (used to love pepper but won't eat it now) and still no nuggets but I've weighed him tonight and he seems to have maintained last nights weight which is good so fingers crossed

That should read hay not how are you? Stupid phone haha

He can manage without nuggets.Hay is most important then veg for vit c.Some people don't feed nuggets at all.Good luck with him

If it was just the nuggets thing then I wouldn't be as concerned but he isn't his normal self and is being much more selective with what veg he will eat. I have bought a different type of nuggets this afternoon and have just put some in for him and I don't want to tempt fate just yet but he is eating some, fingers crossed
