Hi guys, I'm new here. I have two guinea pigs Pippin & Salvador (both males) only about 3 months old.

I'm worried that they're not drinking enough water. They used to get through quite a bit of it daily but now they don't seem to have much at all. I moved it once to another part of the cage and thought it may have been to high up for thm so I moved it to a more ''access friendly'' part of the cage and they still don't seem to drink much. For the pair they're getting through less that 100cc of it (aprox 5% of their large bottle) is this enough? Should I be worried? They seem happy and healthy enough :)

They recently lost their little brother (back to the pet shop) because he was a bully and got an eye injury from fighting with them, if that makes a difference. :{

I cannot comment on their companion leaving other than to say boar trios very rarely work so it is unsurprising they fell out. All the same I am sorry to hear one of them was injured.

Regarding water, my boys don't seem to drink very much either. If I am concerned at the end of the day then I give them a piece of watery veg like cucumber to set my mind at ease. Sometimes I add a little probiotic powder, available from the pet shop, to their water because they absolutely love it and they drink a lot more.

So yes, watery veg is the best way forward but I wouldn't worry too much unless they stop drinking completely.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

Guinea pigs drink in varying amounts...
Our first two piggies rarely drank form the bottle unless it was a warm weather, they got most of their moisture through the veg we fed them, their veggies were always soaking wet. However our current girls drink loads regardless.

Do they have lots of wet veg such as cucmber etc? It may be they are drinking less water now the weather is cooler.
As long as the water is accessable and they know how to drink it, either from a bowl or water bottle i would just monitor the situation.

Mine dont seem to drink anything either, i refresh the water every day but they never seem to have drank any, they have loads of veg though

My boys almost never drink from their bowl, they seem to get all the water they need from veggies.
