Gave poor little flash her A/B first thing this morning then put their breakfast, she is usaully first to eat what ever is put in front of her, This morning she had a little bit but left most of it.

So came home at lunch and gave them both a bit of cucumber Nibbles happily eat hers, Flash had a nibble and walked away from it.

She is drinking plently still but is not her mischievous self, she seem a bit unhappy. :0

Can the A/B make her a bit down, could I have hurt her mouth with the syringe or like us (sounds silly ) but can they just have off days? :...

Any ideas?/

I am no expert but if you are giving her baytril I understand that a probiotic is needed too, as baytril can be harsh on the stomach, so a probiotic will help her feel better whilst on the A/B's and the probiotics will help her feel hungry and want food.

:)

Am not that knowlegable really but Gertie was recently on baytril and it really put her off her food, we took her back to the vets and they gave her a probiotic which they should have given her in the first place and she soon perked up.

EDIT: ooh we posted the same thing at the same time :))

I agree - ring up your vets and ask for a probiotic.

Always insist on a probiotic when you get antibiotics for a guinea pig as they can mess up the digestion.

Poor little Flash. Hope she picks up soon. My Daisy had the Baytril AB and she didn't fancy food before that and was even worse when on it, so a probiotic is something I will be having for her, should she have to take it again. Good luck. XX

Thanks everyone! She just looks so sorry for herself!
She booked back into the vets tomorrow afternoon!

Baytril can lead to inappetence in some pigs, it's noted a lot in pigs in the US; I agree with the advice given that a probiotic should help.

Is she eating other food (hay, dry food) well, or is she off all her food?

She is nibbeling at the hay every now and again, not as much as she normaly dose though and she is drinking plenty.

It's probably worth making up some syringe-food for her and trying to get some into her just to make sure she is getting food into her; try offering some on a shallow plate for her to help herself to at first. It is great she is drinking well, hydration is also important.

Sorry if I've missed something somewhere, what's she on ABs for?

Hi Laura-ccc4

she has Cystitis. Do you mean just puree her normal food? Sorry if thats a silly question but new to all this.

I've just made a little bit of barley water
