Hi, so poggo doesn't really like hay much any more only when i watch him eat it he will eat it i know 80% of there diet is hay but I have been giving him more vegetables and I wondered if i could still give him hay but give him half grass half hay as he will scouf down any grass he gets and is dandelions stems ok for guinea pigs.

Erm I think you have to be careful with grass because of the calcium content. I bet you've tried different hays, hmm not sure what to suggest, maybe someone like @helen105281 can help. I'm sure hay helps with their digestion and keeps their teeth down.

I hope someone can give you some proper advice.

What hay have you been feeding your pig?
Maybe a change of hay for a cupple of weeks till he gets use to eating it may help
Dandelion stocks are ok for pigs
Chock my pig doesn't like iether the stock or flower its self he will only eat the leaves but he's a very fussy boy...
Think its because i spoil him too much lol

Sorry got confused, yes grass is ok if your pig is used to it but ideally they should have more hay than grass. What type of hay are hay are you feeding?

Try oxbow timothy hay. It's easily available online. Pet supermarket sell it. My pigs love this one and it just looks to be really good quality

I find that my lot are pretty picky about hay.
I also find that I clearly have no idea what 'nice' hay is.
I tend to buy various bags and mix things up a bit for them, and this works quite well.
I have however had a couple of bags that they simply won't touch.
In this case I use it as a base layer in their hutch and buy them something else (but I am totally in charge around here :hmm:)

after trial & error this is what i buy for mine Hay, Straw and Woodshavings ive ordered 3 times from them & each time its been lovely hay, sweet smelling & the pigs go nuts for it,rarely gets wasted. ive just done an order today & it will be here tomorrow! giving one of the green hays a try this time along with the normal.

My guinea pigs weren't crazy about Oxbow hay, and I didn't even realize they weren't eating a ton of it, until I switched to KMS hayloft Timothy hay. Now, it's hay eating pretty much around the clock - they LOVE it! This could definitely be a hay quality issue more than anything.

If you're worried about their food intake, I would start daily weigh-ins to keep track of their weight gains/losses, and maybe even start feeding them some critical care. Loss of appetite could also indicate an underlying medical issue, but if you haven't noticed any other symptoms or weirdness, I probably wouldn't assume that's the cause just yet.

I would look into different types of forage and herb mixes this may convince him to eat as they will taste different to the normal hay. mine love the ones with daffodil leaves!
