As some of you know my female piggy had 2 babies. They are now nearly 4 weeks old, and in another few weeks I will be looking at finding them new homes which I'm not looking forward too :( My son is distraught at the idea of rehoming them but we just dont have the space for them :( I feel evil for doing it as my son is in tears at the thought of it. And then I wonder about where they will be going to, as i dread the idea of them going to people who wont look after them properly :( If we had a bigger house and a bigger garden then I would of kept them oh this is sooo unfair 8...

I was the same when my rabbit had babies, this was about 4/5 years ago now and I always wonder where they ended up. We sold them to a pet shop(wish we hadn't done that now but it was my Mums choice).
I think as long as you ask the new owners some questions about where they will be housed and a few basic care questions then that should go some way to putting your mind at rest? Do you have any friends of family that would take them? that way you know they would be well looked after.

Aw my babies are at the same age,and I was going to find homes for them but have decided to keep them for the same reason!I would worry about them!
So I'm going to buy a bigger hutch!
And am trying to house the baby boar with my older one (which hasnt been going to well) but I just can't get rid of them.

Unfortunately I dont know anyone that would like a piggy :( But I'm gonna be particular about it.

I think the worst part is, Ive given them names! I know I shouldnt have as I knew I would get attached once I did but I couldnt resist! I named the male 'Junior' as his colour markings are the same as his dads, and the female 'Sandy' I just wish we could find another, bigger house within the next few weeks and then Id keep them, but fat chance of that happening grrrr

I'm sure you willl find a good home for them! :)

best of luck with it x

I don't know if this would be of help to you but I have a couple of spare indoor cages, one is a bog standard guinea-pig cage, not overly big width ways but length is about 3-4ft and has a large door at the front and top but it has rust damage (I got it free, second hand as a spare for mine) but for a baby boar or baby sow and mum, it'd do fine. The other is smaller and housed one of my rats in, in-fact a second rat cage is housing my little girl Rose at the moment so I know it's big enough, which also has two large doors that open at the front and it can be folded away flat into the base.

I'm only about an hour and a half away from Nottingham (if that is where you are by your 'Location' on here) and could lend either one to you for as long as you needed to either sort them out with a good home that you could go and home check yourself, know the owner would stay in contact etc, or keep them yourself until you can get them housing of their own so they can stay with you. I understand your worry about where they'd go, I'd feel the exact same way. I would have offered either baby a home with me but I think for your benefit lending a cage would be better.

Give me a PM if you want to talk further about it in private or I'll keep checking back to this thread :)

i would have taken some but i cant get to you because its 2 hours away :( I'm suer youl find them a good home :)

Maybe you could start a thread up for them, or chat to one of the rescues .......... then it would mean that you'd know where they are and get regular updates x)
HUGS for you both XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hi i just wanted to say that your boar is probably able to reproduce now and so should be separate from his sister and mother. Hope you find a good home for them. Or perhaps you could get the boar neutered and keep him in with his mum and sister? X

Thank you 'lilmisscavy' but cages wise I'm ok, but Thank you for the offer :) And yes 'PiggiePal' I know that the male is now old enough to repoduce which is why he is now living with his dad, who seems to have taken to him well. Really dont want to put them in a rescue as I think they already have enough to deal with, so I'm going to find them homes myself (hopefully with someone like everyone on here who dote on theyre piggies :) )

Sorry 'PiggiePal' if that sounded nasty as Ive just read it back, didnt mean for it to sound that way.

BIG HUG

I am so sorry - I couldn't hang onto my own surprise babies years ago due to circumstances (major illness in the close family).

In the end, I rehomed them through a local guinea pig rescue to make sure that they only went to a good home after none of our friends could take them. But departing from my babies was a heartbreaking experience indeed!

Rescues are actually often not all that unhappy to get some youngsters in because they can either pair them up with a single adult they have in or with a bereaved single piggy looking for a new friend!
Here is a list of rescues in your area: http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk/gp/centres.asp#Nottinghamshire
Or contact Honeybunneys near Leicester. I have rehomed from them and can vouch for them: http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/rescue.asp?Rescue=461
