Zebedee has been admitted to the vet hospital tonight. I took him in for an emergency appointment because his behaviour was unusual ; he bit at the cage bars while I was getting his meds ready, then wasn't really interested in the grass I had picked for him. When I went to try to entice him with some carrot tops, he was trying to get out of cage, so I picked him up and thought he felt cool and a bit limp.
The vet examined him and said he was dehydrated and hypothermic, as well as having something unusual--feeling in his gut - probably some food.
They have put him in an incubator and will give him sub-cutaneous fluid etc through the night.
I hope I got it early enough and he will pull through, but am seriously worried that he won't - his little body has been through so much over the last 3 months. It doesn't help that we don't know if the dehydration etc are a symptom of something else or not.

Healing vibes and prayers would be much appreciated for brave little Zeb

Come on little man you can do it. Sending lots of healing vibes, hugs and kisses for you and Zebedee.

Oh little Zeb :soz: Stay strong for mom xx

Thank you all. Just hanging in here waiting. Hoping that no news is good news. Going to phone a bit later to see if there is any positive improvement. I only took him in at 6pm, so it's less than 3 hours, probably not long enough yet for treatment to have made a visible difference.

Come on Zebedee be strong we’re all willing you to get better. Big Hugs :wub:x

Just heard from the vets -sadly Zebedee didn't make it. Guess I was too late.

I'm just going to vets to pick him up. Think I'll take Squeaks so he can see the body and I'll decide what to do tomorrow.

I'm sorry Zebedee. Rest in Peace. Go and find Badger (and Beaver and Yoshi) over the Rainbow Bridge. :soz:

Oh no... I’m so sorry. You did everything you could for dear little Zebedee.
Popcorn free over rainbow bridge little one you’ll be very much missed. :luv:
Hugs x

I'm so sorry about Zebedee you did all that you could x

Oh I’m so sorry to be reading about the passing of Zebedee :soz: You did everything you could, massive hugs

Rest in peace Zebedee xx

I am so sorry to hear your sad news. No one could have done more for Zebedee, you were not too late, it was his time. Sending you hugs and my very best wishes. X
RIP sweet Zebedee.

Thank you, @Hoppity.K , @piggie smitten , @Lorcan , @Merab's Slave , @Tim , @piggieminder @VickiA for your sympathy and good wishes.
I have brought Zeb's body back from the vets and put it in the cage for Squeaks to see. Squeaks sniffed his bum and did a quiet rumblestrut around him before going to his favourite hidey. Hope he understands and won't grieve too much.
The vet nurse said Zeb did not respond to the fluids and meds he was given on admission. He seems to have faded slowly and peacefully.
I'm having the inevitable guilt feelings - was it anything to do with my moving him to a separate cage on Saturday; should I have been giving him more water by syringe recently as he couldn't reach the bottle; should I have taken him to the vet this morning when he didn't each much breakfast veg and was possibly moving oddly - and so on.
I hope though that Zebedee had a happy life with us and Squeaks and knew that he was loved to the end.

Please don’t feel guilty. You did absolutely everything you could for little Zebedee. It’s ever so sad but it was perhaps his time to go. You or the vet couldn’t have done any more. He was very much loved & he would have known that.
Please give squeaks an extra cuddle from me.
Hugs for you too  at this difficult time x

Thank you @Jaycey , and everyone, for your kind words. I'm okay, it's very strange after so long not having to sort out all Zebedee's food and medicines last thing at night and after the school run in the mornings.
Squeaks seems to be fine fortunately, eating normally; less active than normal perhaps, but then he hasn't anypig to sniff and rumble at. I'm going to spend a bit more time with him though and start to look for a new friend for him as soon as I can.
Got to decide what to do with Zebedee's body - my other 3 are buried under the edge of the rockery, but as I want to move I'm wondering whether to have him cremated and put his ashes in a nice big pot of bright summer flowers (like below) or in a decorative urn on top, so 'he' can be moved if we move. :hmm:

I'm really sorry for your loss. Please don't blame yourself. You did everything you could for him and it really was not your fault. ((HUGS.))

Have only just caught up with this thread and I was so sorry to learn of the passing of brave little Zeb. He is now pain free and playing with his friends at the Rainbow Bridge. Please don't feel guilty @Qualcast&Flymo you did all you could. It was obvioiusly his time. The call of the Rainbow Bridge is too strong to resist.

Hi. When Pedro died we got him cremated. It was a service the vet offered. It wasn’t cheap but I’m ever so glad we made that decision. His ashes are still in a lovely little box. Perhaps that’s a good decision for Zebedee then he can move with you/always be with you.
I’m glad squeaks is bearing up ok.
Huge hugs today x
