I went to vet back in Aug for their first health check and the fact they were scratching a little. They had slight fleas and we're treated... so while I was there they got weighted... tilly the munchkin was 640g just weighted her now and 908g in 2 mths. ..flossy always feels skinny and light and is the underdog ..so to speak at the vets was 510g but 2 mths on only weights 597g. That's nothing for 2 mths. .. she looks OK. .. she's eating . .but I know tilly eats a lot more. Any suggestions? Tilly is always there first eating everything so I try and give to flossy too but tilly eats quick and is back for more

I had two boars and when they were still growing one was always considerably heavier than the other and I was worried too, so I sat with them while they were eating and made sure the skinnier one had enough food, so if you're really worried than I would recommend doing that because that certainly made me feel better. Good luck!!

Thanks... I was thinking same thing. The little one takes ages to get to the food once it's out or if I'm hand feeding as she is so timid but I am putting pellets in her hidey while the other goes to the bowl and trying to make sure she gets her share of veg. The other will no doubt end up with extra as she's always there having finished hers wanting more! Thanks though it's re assuring to know you had same issue. Did she put weight on then ?

Yes - my Guinea Pig is now 943g which is perfect because they are one today! The other one is still heavier but importantly the one that was skinnier is now a healthy weight. In the last few months the smaller Guinea Pig did put on weight and they now have learned to share their food!

How did they learn?did you do anything more than make sure the little one was eating? Or did he realise what he was missing!

I was quite worried and they only started to really share when I put food at one end of the hutch and a bit at the other. A Guinea Pig can't be at two places at once! If you decide to do this I the smaller Guinea Pig will soon take the initiative to go to the other side. The heavier Guinea Pig will hopefully be to absorbed in her food to really notice what is going on with her hutch mate. I found this went well and if you are really worried you could maybe hand feed her but only if the food at separate ends doesn't work. From now on I would also recommend weighing her weekly to check on her progress. If you are unable to do this then just continue to put food at separate ends. Once I started doing this I found that the smaller Guinea Pig did realise what he was missing and the problem stopped there. But, remember only hand feed if the foods at each end doesn't work! Good luck with trying this!
