Hi guys

I became mum to 2 girlies on Monday and so far it doesn't seem like they've drank any water from the bottle. They are weeing (good lord are they weeing!) and seem ok (still shy and wary of us but no signs of illness). Do they get water from the veg they eat? I've bought melon for them today, figured that was very juicy.

I think they had water bottles at the rescue but wondered whether to try a bowl of water or will they knock it over - like they do their food bowl all the time!

Aw, congrats on the newbies.

Dont worry too much about the drinking, many piggies take a while to use a water bottle and some never use them, but so long as they are eating plenty of veg, they will get enough water through this, though if you are worried, after you have washed your veggies, dont worry too much about the excess water.

I always try to avoid bowls with guinea pigs as they usually knock them over.

You could try offering food through the bars right next to the spout of the bottle.

xx

hiya and happy birthday to zack! Not drinking is really common when your piggies are just new in to your house. It.s nothing to worry about. You might find they sneak a drink at night when you're not looking! Once they know you better they will drink when you are there. In the meantime rinse all veg and feed wet and cucumber is a good one (as is melon) some pigs drink more than others. Don.t add vit c tablets to water as it can put them off. I personally wouldn't use a water bowl just yet. They've been used to bottles so this will be shyness. All the best!

Thanks a lot guys, that's put my mind at rest. I'll keep an eye on them but they do seem absolutely fine

Whenever I buy my piggies a new bottle or change their cage around, they won't drink for a while... or at least while I'm looking. :^- I'd just give them time to adjust, as everyone else said. Congrats on the new babies!
