I was in a well known pet shop today and I saw a little boy piggy that was up for adoption. I have two young boars who have an excellent bond so don't want to ruin that but I can't stop thinking about him! I will have room to extend the new c&c cage i am in the middle of building so I could house him next to my boys so he has some kind of company and look into getring him a friend in the future if he is unhappy but I'm just not sure! I just feel so awful for the poor little guy :(

Any advice?

When I'm considering a new pig I always think of whether I have the money to cover vet bills, food and housing for the new one.

And if I'm considering trying to add a third to a pair I have to think of worse case scenario and it doesn't work. Do I have the time, money and space for 4 pigs?

Thanks for the advice :D i've decided to think about it and if he is still there in a couple of weeks when I will need to go in for piggy food then I will take him :)

I did the same and tried to bond three boars, unfortunately it didn't work so I got one of them neutered and a girl friend. Unfortunately this caused even more issues with my little boys as they could smell the girl but couldn't get to her. X

My advice is ... Don't do it ! These shops play on our emotions . If you have a bonded pair, if isn' t worth the risk.

I know, I'm just a big softie haha! I think it would upset William aka big boss piggy :P I just hope the poor wee guy finds a good home.

I'm in a similar situation I've seen an advert online to adopt a gorgeous light brown coloured girl from a pet store and I'm considering adding her to my pair of bonded girls, sausage and bacon.
I only have 1 outdoor hutch so if they don't get on I'd have to rehome the new one as I don't have space for a second hutch to keep them separate.
She looks lovely in the picture and is the colour I would have gone for if I'd been able to pick my Guinea pigs myself - I also have a name for her - hash brown lol

I was in a similar situation the other week while getting some guinea supplies. I saw a frightened older guinea in the adoption section. I even asked a worked if the guinea was a boy or girl. When they said girl my instinct was to take her home and it was very difficult not to. She was very large and I couldn't risk adding a large guinea to my 6 when they are settled.

Trios of boars don't have a high success rate. Only do it if you want or are able to have two bonded pairs I would say. He will hopefully be snapped up quickly. All the rescues in our pets at home only ever seem to be there for a few days, a week tops

I was back in to pick up some hay which I forgot yesterday (because I'm an idiot and thought I had more than what I actually had!) and I tore myself away from him again. Don't want to ruin my boys little bromance that they have going on :D thanks for the advice everyone!

I'm in the same situation with a rat I have seen at rspca, already have six but this one has the same name as my son. Jonjo. Other half says no though :(

Rats yuk love hamsters & piggies but rats, I think it's the long tail, & they hunch up, but I quite like the ferrets. Lol

I'm sure you don't like them because you don't know enough about them. It's a shame when people have pre conceived ideas about an animal. They are all equal in my veiw
I love rats, I've had a couple before but broke my heart when they couldn't use they're back legs and had to hand feed them as they wouldn't eat and had to be put to sleep so never got any more.

This has happened to me twice but with sows...and I bought them both times. With the first one, one of the piggies didn't take to her at all and she would mostly stay on the feeding ledge to be out of her way...then we found out she was pregnant and we bought another cage that we put the rescue into to have the babies and be away from the grumpy piggie. The 2nd rescue sow that was all alone was accepted quite easily. I've never had a problem between the original piggies when I introduce a new one.

I love rats.Stopped keeping them because they are so susceptible to uri's.

It's hard as I see them sometimes and wish I could take more on .... It really does tug at your heart strings but I have two and that's all I can afford and care for 100% properly for now...
