My 1 and a half year old boars brother died a couple of months ago soon after pebbles ( my now alone boar ) developed a stubborn UTI and had been very fussy with his food which is unlike him. We went on holiday and left him in a holiday home where he was surrounded by other guinea pigs the lady said he was eating well and his UTI was going away. Since he came back he has still had on and of blood in his wee and has been very fussy and sometimes has refused to eat. Today he hasn’t seemed himself and most of today his eyes have been half closed. I am extremely concerned as his brothers death was sudden. We have been giving him the critical care twice a day. We have also been syringing water to help clear his bladder out. Today he has seemed the worst he’s been. He had a week and 5 days anti biotic course and before that we had given him metacam. Is he lonely? Or is he just really sick? Should we take him back to the vets?

Defiantly take him back to the vets . Before thinking about if he may be lonely. Better safe then sorry that way along courses can be rolled out x

I’d take him to a vet for a thorough check. If that doesn’t show anything then I’d look into getting him a friend. Piggies aren’t designed to be alone.

Thanks we will book an appointment!

Guinea pigs do mourn also have you considered putting in a soft plush toy like a teddy bear he can snuggle up to.
But the thought of your piggy sitting with eyes half closed is definite warning sign.

He does have a plush toy in his bedroom area that he normally lies next to. His eyes have widened now but not to their normal size. We will be booking a vets appointment for tomorrow.
