Need some advice on Ruby again. I took her to the vets at the beginning of the week since she was in a bit of pain with one of her hind legs - slight limping, couldn't get comfy. The vet felt her over and gave her a good examination, she couldn't pinpoint any particular sore areas, so she was put on Metacam for a few days and her leg is now fine, she's using it normally.
But for the past 24 hours or so she hasn't been herself. She's very quiet, she's been lying in her bed most of the day. She choose to come out with the others for a little while during floor time, but didn't stay long. Was eating and drinking normally, but about 10 minutes ago she turned down some grass, which isn't usual. Her breathing is normal. Her poos are looking slightly soft, but she's been lying on them, so I don't know if that's why.
She's almost 4 years old, so I don't know whether she's just feeling her age a bit, or she's picked up an infection, or if she's had a reaction to the Metacam. If there's no improvement by morning I'll likely take her back to vets, but I just wondered if anyone had any advice?

Hi!

I am very sorry for your ongoing worries.

What you can do right now is 'observation' and switching to weighing daily instead of weekly to keep an eye on her food intake (including hay, which should be over 80% of the daily food intake but cannot checked by eye). If the poos are soft, then it can be a minor tummy upset. Stay off any fresh veg and see how she is after a day. Slightly damp grass (and we have had plenty of rain in the last few days) can cause that.

See a vet asap if she is not eating in the morning or as soon as she is losing noticeably over 50g (the daily weight variation is 30-40g, which does not count as weight unless it is part of a continuing slow downward trend over several days) but it is hopefully nothing serious.

Thank you so much. She is still a bit quiet this morning, not herself, but she is eating. True I can't tell how much hay she's eating but I can hear munching! So I'll keep a close eye on her weight and see how things go.
She looked so sorry for herself yesterday, it was sad to see her like that.
