As many of you may know, my Connie died in April after surgery around her bladder after being poorly for a good few months with bladder problems. When she died, she was just laying in her hutch on the hay. That morning, I stroked her and said my goodbyes and OH said he would bury her etc. I assumed that she just died in her sleep but it appears I could have been wrong.
Chris (OH) made a confession to me last night that when he lifted Connie up, she was all wet and urine was dripping from her :( He said he didn't tell me at the time as I was already in a state. This news has really upset me as I am now imagining all sorts. Would she have suffered? Why was she soaked? could her bladder have ruptured or something? Was the operation too much for her? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just wondering if anyone has any answers as to what could have happened to her :(

The thing is when they pass over their bowl movements tend to give way, we lost a boar to heat stroke in one of the early June rescues and as he went he poo'd, pee'd and ermmm well did his boy stuff too on poor Helen.

It could of been this rather then bowl rupturing :(

Claire I'm sorry that I don't have any answers for you but just wanted you to know that I am thinkining of you. It must be hard having to go through it all over again x

As far as I know the bladder and bowel emptying is normal. When I found Farquhar after she passed, she was also wet with urine. I really dont think the urine signifies anything untoward other than a natural occurance after passing. I'm so sorry that you have these doubts and just hope that others can help to put your mind at rest. Connies story touched everyones hearts and I was so very sad when I saw her Rainbow Bridge thread. Sending you lots of hugs....

Claire, I am so sorry to hear this, as you know when Pinkie died earlier this year we had gone through so much to try and help her, only for it to come too nothing in the end, it leaves us feeling guilty of knowing when to help them or leave them in peace. She made it quite clear to me in the end that she wanted to go, and it is so heart wrenching to watch. You will feel exactly the same over Connie, you are still greiving for her. But look at the life she had with you, it couldn't have got much better and you did everything you could to help her. Don't beat yourself up about something you had no control over. Remember this, you loved her and she loved you. She is in Gods garden now looking down on you. So try not to shed a tear, but remember the happy times she had with you. x>>

Flora did this too at first we thought she suffered the same fate as Pearl with the bad tummy but it is a normal process to go through. :(

I don't think you will ever know exactly; but given your frame of mind at the time, Chris was doing his best to protect you from a very BAD upset - seeing Connie in that state would probably sent you off the bend! He tried to make you a gift by sparing you the worst; there was nothing that he, or you, could have done for Connie when he found her, but there was something he could do for you.

Quite often dying is not a very nice or straightforward affair; you did all you could for Connie, and she went knowing she was loved.

When Minx had PTS she was bleeding through her mouth; my vet had placed her in the cuddle cup so we couldn't see it, but I did when I wrapped her up for burial, and I wish I hadn't...

BIG HUG

Oh Claire, how upsetting for you. I agree with the others, when any animal or human dies, often the bowls and bladder "let go". It happened with my mums cat, Lennie my guinea when he died in my arms and also upsettingly to my grandad when he took his last breath. It is just nature :(

It wasn't anything you did and your OH was just trying to ease your hurt by not saying.

((((hug))))

Claire i also think he was trying to do his best to protect you from seeing her this way.......i'm sure he was genuinely doing the right thing.......we'll never know as our little ones hide so much from us....8...8...
BUT one thing remember this, she knew how much she was loved by you she knew she was special too xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
And yes unfortunatley the bodily functions go haywire at the end, i've not experienced this with a piggie but i have with my grandparents.......be assured tho they have no idea cause by then they're totally out of it, in like a little trance....it's right before they pass over to the bridge.
HUGS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Animals and humans too, when they die, their muscle tone just gives in and therefore they wet/poo themselves if there's anything to come out. Usually because they cease eating in their last 24hrs due to illness, we're none the wiser. Most of my pigs have wet themselves when they passed on. I wouldn't worry, it's only nature.
If you've ever read Dean Koontz' novels, he often mentions this unfortunate bodily function when characters are killed. I think he uses the phrase 'waste themselves'. I hope this puts your mind at rest.

This has been a really helpful thread, as I've never experienced this before. Will help to know not to be shocked if it happens in the future.

Rest assured that you did your very best for Connie. x
